I have read so many reviews, claiming "Evil Dead 2" to be one of the best horror films ever written. Many say that this movie is hilarious and just their favorite to watch. I don't see that.
Don't get me wrong, this film is enjoyable; but it certainly does not qualify as a horror classic.
This is basically a remake of the original "Evil Dead".
Ash (Bruce Campbell) revisits the cabin in the woods that he was in during the first film. While there, he stumbles upon the Book of the Dead and unleashes an evil spirit intent on killing every living thing in its path.
That's the only plot this film gives. Dialogue is also very rare in this film.
Campbell battles with the evil spirits or zombies(they are dead) until they are finally cast back where they came from.
This movie is funny and should definitely not be taken seriously. The gore is phenomenal and is what kept me interested in the film. I understand the whole "Rambo" parody that writer/director Sam Raimi was going for, but I don't find it to be funny or effective at all. Rather, I find the undead and the way in which they attack Campbell to be funny.
The DVD extras are worth viewing on this film and there is a commentary track included. This movie is not suitable for young children or squeamish folks; but if you are not part of either category, I would recommend checking this film out for a good laugh.
All in all, I will watch this film again, and perhaps after further viewings; find the "classic" status so many label this film with. But, until then, I find this to be an adequate horror film, lacking in pot, but full of laughs and gore.
So this film is average. If it had a plot, then I might've liked it more.
This continuation of the ED1 is THE masterpiece of slapstick,horror/comedies.
So many great scenes of silly toture via the possessed woods on poor ol Bruce"Don't Call Me Ash" CAMPbell.
Continuation of the events in the original "Evil Dead" movie. After recapping the events of the first movie (telling the story somewhat differently, even eliminating three of the characters), this movie has poor, tormented Ash (Bruce Campbell) constantly being harassed and tortured by sadistic demons - including, in the movie's most memorable sequence, his own possessed hand.
Absolutely hilarious; this effective mix of hardcore horror and slapstick comedy provides a lot of laughs, impressive effects, and the very game Campbell putting up with a lot as the film-makers set out to abuse his character as much as possible. "Evil Dead 2" manages to be even more entertaining than the first movie, a goofy and fun horror/comedy with a chaotic finale that I would recommend to any fan of this genre.
What is also funny is that the character of Ash is already showing signs of the super-obnoxious moron he would become in "Army of Darkness".
As far as evil dead films, this is the best of both worlds (army and pt.1)with a ton of humor from Army's type of comedy, but I found this film funnier hence the hysterrically laughing lamp and it was over the top gory, like evil dead 1.The thing I missed from part one though is the suspense, and why did Ash keep turning into deadite Ash and back, none of the others did that.Oh yeah, and a headless deadite wielding a chainsaw accidently commits suicide by jamming the chainsaw through their throat!Best zombi kill ever, and it was on accident, brilliant!!!
Wow. The first one was like a rough draft for this one. Unpredictable and full of totally, absolutely unnecessarily fancy camera tricks and animation. Fantastic and indulgent!
Why? It's evident that this film is meant as a better precursor to Army of Darkness but there's no need for it. The beginning of 3 is reshot anyway and due to the tone of 3, all it would have needed was a brief message to say "what actually happened" at the end of 1 and problem solved. This film is just garbage. Too gorey to be scary and too stupid to be funny.
An endlessly freightning and wickedly funny horror classic. Great effects and a great story that reinventes the idea of continuing the series. Plenty of humor, scares and ideas. A brilliant piece of horror filmaking loaded with awsome gore and keeps you entertained
Bruce Campbell is the ultimate hero in the Evil Dead series. I wish he had become a bigger star in mainstream movies besides cameos in Spiderman, ect. This is one of the best movies...EVER
Funnier than the first. Still plenty of screaming demons. Beg to differ with a lot of people who claim this is a zombie film. Much more demonic/magic than undead.
While still amazing, this movie feels as if Sam Raimi was trying to make it ridiculous. While others consider it better than the first, I feel that it takes away, while only slightly, from the premise of the B-Movie conquering the main stream world. Still wonderful and still definitely worth seeing but only after having seen the first one.
unfortunately, eil dead 2 t-shirts have been co-opted as standard issue uniform for fat goth teens everywhere. but, whatever...this movie still kicks ass.
Much put upon hero Ash is battered by the titular dead as he spends an endless night in a haunted cabin, fighting evil spirits and his own possessed hand. Like the evil spirits lurking in the woods outside the cabin, this incredibly original movie comes at the viewer in waves: waves of horror, comedy, weirdness and blood, blood, blood.
I began watching this yesterday, and well my grandmom was sitting in the room and I got around a quarter of the way through and was liking it, yet my grandmom wasn't, if you knew my grandmom you would know it's easier to turn it off and avoid the tension. I'll finish it soon.
HELLO one of the greatest dark comedy horror of all times !!! even Ebert gave it 3 stars. Sam Raimi's a genius. THE PLOT LISTED HERE IS WRONG. The only survivor doesn't return, this movie is basically a re-make of the first one with different people and partially changed plot. The character shows no prior knowledge that he was there before. The special effects are great in both movies, but #2 is better improved upon movie from #1
one of the best and funniest movies ever. cleaverly put togeher and acceptable everything for the budget they had. and any movie with bruce campbell in it is a 5 star
First watched it when I was 16. Never laughed so long or hard in my life. I felt like there was some esoteric joke in every frame of this movie and that the director must be some enlightened genius for conveying it so subtly and yet powerfully. I'm much older now and can't remember what it was I was laughing at but it's still a cool movie.
The sequel sadly is a remake of the original. There's an added touch though - it's now funnier. Still, the gore factor is still high and we get to see Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell rise to the occasion in this film. A worth while watch!
the man..the myth.. the only guy that i know that has a cut hand with a chain saw instead.... ASH is back and this time hes kicking some dead ASSes for sure!!! really funny and really gory!! great mix of both to love that movie for a long time.....
Quite possibly, the most fantastic, in-yo-face, over the edge, slapstick horror flick EVER!!! They don't get much better than Evil Dead 2 folks...sorry, but they just don't. So oil your chainsaw, polish the boomstick, grab some popcorn, sit back and enjoy! GROOVY!!
