TO BE CLEAR THIS IS A PARTIAL REMAKE OF THE FIRST ONE!! Sam Raimi wanted to get footage from the first one to lead into this one, but for one reason or another, he was denied access to it by the studio, so he reshot the whole first movie in about 5 min
Not a true sequel, but more of a retelling with more money and humor, Evil Dead two tells the story of Ashe showing up at the house he did in the first movie, but now he's got jokes... SO WATCH OUT. A classic to be sure.
If you like seeing things bleeding and gushing and oozing all over, this is the movie for you. Open the Necronomecron and dive into this horror/comedy. It's a lot of fun.
ED2 Seems to be more of a segway... i'd like to see the trillogy minus all unneeded scenes and recaps. cut out the to where ED ended and cut out where Army starts. Make it one whole movie - it'd be great.
Come on, what more can you ask for? Horror genre GOD Bruce Campbell puts on a hillarious yet heroic performance. God, I want to see this movie again now. This movie is a classic. Go see it. Make sure to watch the first one, followed immediately by this one, and then Army of Darkness :D You'll be in for quite a treat. *Runs off to find them to start an Evil Dead marathon*
This film is great because it is fully aware of how ridiculous it is and gets really surreal after a while when it stops going for straight horror. It is better for it.
The second and best of the three films, the first one is all horror, the third one is all comedy, this baby is the best of both worlds. By far my favourite, Campbell gets to stretch his legs, takes the action and adventure to a new level. The first one was good in a historic/kind of cool way, and the third one is too far in its comedic adventure, but this one should appeal in more ways to a much wider audience and for good reasons.
It's crazy, it's evil, and oh man is it dead... dead like a fox!
back and bloodier than ever... It's fun and deadly and oddly hillarious! Now with the release of the dvd you get to see many outtakes that add a totally new dimension to many of the scenes...
A step above the first by adding a dash of comedy to the mixture. The first 10-15 minutes is a recap of the first film, and then starting with Ash spinning through the air, we continue the story. More awesome innovative directing, even more Bruce Campbell hamming it up (in his best role ever ever ever). Plot is even more messed up and should therefore be taken with a grain of salt. But Evil Dead films aren't made for plot. They are made to entertain. It gets a little long after an hour, but that first hour may just be the best 60 minutes of horror film from 1987. ANOES 3 is a close second. So sit back, enjoy, and expect gallons, and gallons of blood. Sweet.
The first part is great and rather pioneering and Campbell is excellent throughout. But there isn't all that much else to recommend this over the original which has a lot more soul (& isn't played for laughs).
Probably my favourite film of all time, more comedy than horror, but thoroughly enjoyable throughout. A great film made perfect by the inclusion of Bruce Campbell...
The greatest horror movie ever made. Raimi's low-budget inventiveness makes you laugh, and that's before you see Bruce Campbell. "Chainsaw!" The man is a B-Movie God. You won't see films like this any more kiddo.
This film is god like, amamzing amazing camrea work the camrea becomes a beast all in itsself in this film, the genuis of sam rami. Plus soem truly outstanding slapstick work done by the man god that is bruce camppell. Add to this buckets of gore a man fighting with his own hand and soem of the best truly elegant 80s effefcts work to date. This film sums up all that was good about the 80s and rubber and gore. Its truly one of the fastest most mental in your face rollcoaster horror comedies you will ever see in your whole life.
I'm going to half to agree with Walter on this one. Bruce Campbell alone in the cabin is incredible. They should have made the entire movie like that. However, they also shouldn't have redone the first 10 minutes.
A word of caution: you might laugh more than you scream. This is a sadistic romp with an insane style. Imagine Tex Avery's nightmares, following the general plot of Evil Dead one. This is NOT to be missed.
This whole time here I was thinking that this sequel was basically just like the first, boy was I wrong. What a crazy, cheesy, zombie flick. And the horrible, over exaggerated acting of Bruce Campbell just adds to the glory.
Bruce Campbell gives one of the greatest performances of all time in this movie. Seriously. He single handedly (ha ha ha, I made a funny) makes this movie not only watchable, but a classic.
