  Extracted is a low budget sci-fi film that feels more like TV movie you would catch in 8:00 in the morning. It explores familiar territory on dreams like Inception (2010) and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2000), but completely falls flat due to it lackluster story. Extracted is about a scientist who has invented a machine to watch people's memories finds himself trap in a drug addict dreams. Extracted plot and concept is simple making it easier to follow. This is also the problem since we are never given a clear explanation on how everything works. The films spent more than 2/3 of its duration telling us was happen on a particular day only to have it all be pointless with the infuriating twist ending. This twist ending completely makes the 2/3 of the film events not matter. The screenplay is simply a mess; no character feels dynamic, the setup is not concrete enough to sustain interest, and the plot tries a bit to hard be complex loosing its audiences. The acting was decent from it cast, but were all largely unmotivated in their roles. I can't blame the cast for this, the direction was all over the place. The direction made our protagonist boring and uninteresting to follow. Everything just looks plain and dull to look at. What hurts the film the most is the lack of logic. The fact that I was able to find a solution to the problem twenty five minutes in the movie is bad. Whenever the audiences is more intelligent than the fictional scientist on screen you know you have dumb characters to deal with in your movies. Extracted takes inspiration from other great sci-fi works, but without the heart and soul present in them. Extracted fails on all level and even though some of its ideas were interesting, it all falls flat even before it even ends.
