OK Bill, let's cut the bullshit, alright? You've been way out of your depth for the last 24 hours. You want to know what kind of charade? I'll tell you exactly what kind. That whole play-acted, "take me" sacrifice that you've been jerking off with had nothing to do with her real death. Nothing happened after you left that hadn't happened to her before. She got her brains fucked out. Period.

    Directed by: Stanley Kubrick
Starring: Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman, Madison Eginton, Jackie Sawiris, Sydney Pollack

    Genre: Drama/Mystery/Thriller

    Running time: 159 minutes

    My review:

Stanley Kubricks career as one of best directors of all time ends with a bang! I thought that this film was absolutely awesome. This is definitely Kubricks weirdest film. This is even weirder that 2001 is. The main keyword in this film is: sex. If Kubrick didnt direct this film it would be an absolutely shit film. The cast was good but I dont think the performances were very good. Nicole Kidman was really good but I wasnt impressed with Tom Cruises performance at all really because he acted a bit aggressive and like a villain unlike his character. Nicoles performance was better because she was more dramatic than Tom was. This film is another sexual psychological thriller just like Lolita is. Apart from this is better than Lolita. The sexuality looked real and there was an awful lot of nudity particularly the women. It is quite bizarre that Bill enters a house where the men wear masks and are cloaked where the whores are in a circle only in thongs. It is quite a disturbing story but not as disturbing as A Clockwork Orange is. I am quite surprised that this film didnt get Oscar nominations like Best Art Direction and Best Costume Design. It should have had Kubrick as a special achievement award since 1999 was the year when Kubrick died. It is like in 5 of Kubricks films there is one object that is the main picture of each of his films. The picture of HAL in 2001, the eye in A Clockwork Orange, the door in The Shining, the army helmet in Full Metal Jacket and the mask in Eyes Wide Shut. This is another underrated film from Kubrick along with Lolita and possibly Barry Lyndon. I found that this was an giant success to Kubricks final film. Too bad we wont see anymore future projects from him. He did pretty much most of the project in A.I: Artificial Intelligence but rest was replaced by Spielberg. Not as good as probably three of Kubricks best 2001: A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange and The Shining but otherwise Eyes Wide Shut is an absolutely awesome film!!

those ppl are complete morons...they have to repeat every sentence in order to grasp it? or talk slower than my grandpa who has no teeth...although the idea of the film was good and i applaud the lack of inhibitions, sadly the overall impression was very poor

An amazing movie. I loved every second of it. Tom Cruise was great for this role, with his confidence and ability to pull off that stiff 90s characterization. His and Kidman's acting was great.

I thought the movie shed light to the common conception of sexual exploration in American society. Peoples' obsession with power, sexuality, and greed, which ultimately drives their personal relationships apart.

Kubrick pulls off another great job as the director. While the plot is seemingly dull at moments, Kubrick is able to keep your attention into the movie through his great us of the landscape and lighting.

    I recommend this movie.

People in silly masks and costumes bumping into each other, Tom and Nicole smoking weed, some sort of attempt of a murder mystery and Mr Scinetology almost getting AIDS. All of that and more to resume the whole thing in Nicole Kidman's last words..."let's fuck". Seems Kubrick greek-god image as a director has gave this film a weird sort of "cult" status that hardly deserves. This feels more like the creepy obssesions of an old man that certainly knew how to move the camera, but not always to tell the right story. This is a naked emperor type of film, nothing to see here at all, even the "orgy" scenes are more hillarious than anything else.

Only real memorable scene? Some guys calling Tom "fag" in the street, priceless.

Looks pretty fucked-up. Maybe I'll give 'er a shot.

So far, my only complaint is that Tom Cruise has a leading role, but that didn't stop Legend or Minority Report from being any less good.

Let me get this off my chest first: Nic has a great body =P

Okay, now down to business.. A little off the Shining style of things. Definately not one of Kubricks finest.

It was a very surreal Film, as odd as it may be.. I thought the whole idea of Fidelity.. Mysetery & again Beethoven..were all great theme and had potential if they were backed by an even better storyline

Hmmm.. if you like saggy arses and masked people having sex. There wasnt really anything to this film.

A great disappointment. I still love Kubrick =P

an interesting film with flashes of profundity, but completely unwatcheable at the same time. certainly kubricks demented side comes out here in similar fashion to clockwork orange. while most of kubricks work is marvelous, this film just fell flat at every turn and delved into the realm of the silly. a waste of time.

Ok, now this movie is fucked up. It certainly is something else and interesting to watch. But the movie was broken down to simplicity very well by Ms. Kidman's last sentence.

Such a powerful film. The directing is world class. The camera work is haunting and the soundtrack gives me chills. A masterpiece that should be treasured.

I need to see this again to fully appreciate it, but from what I've seen it's the only Kubrick that isn't perfect in my eyes.

Hmmm...I have to say this is one of my least favorite Kubrick films and I love a lot of his films. I wouldn't say it was too thought-provoking, but it did include many "interesting" creepy visuals.

This movie was an absolute piece of horse S! There is NO story to it, Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman probably got divorced BECAUSE of this movie, I'd be embarrassed too! Someone should really tell Tom that after Top Gun, you just sucked buddy!!!! The only good part about this movie was the endging, and I don't mean the end of the supposed "story" either I mean the end of the film as in THANK GOD ITS OVER! I couldn't say enough bad things about this movie if I had a million pages to write on!

The sole reason i'm not giving this a 10 is my dislike for Tom Cruise. If you think that's a bullshit statement, watch the interview with tom cruise on the dvd.

The great Stanley Kubrick signs off with this erotic thriller as his last film before his untimely death. 'Eyes Wide Shut', like his other films, is shot with extreme precision. It's about the struggles of monogamy. Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman have rarely been better and you have to wonder whether it was all acting (the real-life couple divorced not long after this film). But Kubrick is the star and it's sad to know that we will never see him create another masterpiece. (P.S. I must note that I watched this film on Australian television, and as such the network decided to show an American altered version which crucially cuts out a very improtant scene: The party scene. Bill arrives at the party, puts on the mask and enters the room where I was only breifly shown people performing a ritual in the room. Cutting the scene left me confused as the movie went on as there were important plot points in the scene. I am disgusted that such a thing has happened and hope to see the scene in its original, unaltered version.)

Words that describe Eyes Wide Shut? Try these: creepy, disturbing, boring, haunting, erotic, etc. This is definitely not Kubrick's masterpiece by any means, but he still managed to pull off a very good movie, although I didn't quite fully understand it. I'll give him props for taking a stab at a very challenging plot. But overall a good movie.

By starting off with half an hr of Nicole Kidman showing all her hot bits, the movie just got shit after that. Just another Tom Cruise film where u go, what the fuck just happened? Add Stanley Kubrick who was involved with Clockwork Orange and it just got weirder.

I've always found it to be very fun, atmospheric and gripping... Sure, some things don't *seem* to mix well: Cruise is kind of bland, New York doesn't really look like New York, and the dialogues sound like taken from a Czech movie's subtitles, but if you're looking for realism in a Kubrick film... look somewhere else, buddy. And Nicole never looked hotter.

This is a very deep movie and really has some powerful scenes. But the movie is mostly about sex. But you won't believe what you see. I mean this is taking a hidden part of the world and bringing it to the scene in a movie that would of defiantly been rated X back in the day.
