I agree with the comment of a friend on here that, while still good, this documentary is not as good as The Celluloid Closet, Its scope is not as big and it doesn;t go into as much detail. I got the sense that this documentary was made moreso in an effort to promote films and less to educate the LGBT community.
That being said, it was still good and reminded me of a lot of films I still need to see. And the interview snippets were good.
Good for any gay man or lesbian, or any fan of film in general.
A very thorough history lesson on queer cinema, covering just about every movie and featuring many queer actors, directors, and other talents in interviews. Comes off as a tad pretentious at times, but you'll come out (heh heh) of it very well-educated.
I've always wanted to know more about queer cinema and this documentary is a very nice opportunity to those who wanna learn about the subject. It features interviews with lotta gay actors and directors, and how they feel about being gay in Hollywood. Although there are a lot of movies mentioned, I kinda missed some. But it's a great movie, I really enjoyed it.
So I still liek the Celluloid Closet better to look at Queer Film, this documentary talks more about the place and role of Queer Film within mainstream Hollywood and mainstream America. It presents Queer Theory and Film Theory in a way most people can udnerstand and grasp. An interesting watch for sure...
