In THE HALF BREED, Douglas Fairbanks stars as Lo Dorman, a young man of mixed racial background, who lives on the outskirts of town with his adoptive Indian grandfather. One day, he happens to meet a young woman,Teresa (Alma Reuben), who is hiding out from the local sheriff, after having killed her unfaithful lover. Sheriff Dunn (Sam de Grasse) sees Teresa talking to Lo Dorman, but mistakes her for his girlfriend Nellie (Jewel Carmen). Believing his girlfriend is involved with the half-breed, he resolves to kill him. Teresa, who, after seeing some of Lo's things, realizes that he's the son of Dunn, tries to forestall the tragedy. Fairbanks also stars as Ned Thacker in A MODERN MUSKETEER. His mother's obsession with Alexandre Dumas has imbued the young man with the belief that he's living out the role of D'Artagnan, which, predictably, leads to some problems. On a cross-country journey he meets and falls for the lovely young Elsie Dodge (Marjorie Daw), who has also attracted the attentions of much-married millionaire Forrest Vandeteer (Eugene Ormonde). When a party of fearsome Navajo warriors shows up, Ned has his chance to live out his dreams.
