It's been fifteen years since Erik was forced to leave the Norrrland Police Department. Since then he has become the National Murder Commission's best interrogator. When Erik's boss orders him back to his home town to solve a brutal murder, he hesitantly returns as the thought of going back stirs up unpleasant memories. What at first appears to be a simple murder soon proves to be something much more complicated.

Critic Reviews from Rotten Tomatoes

"[I]f you're weary of [Peter] Stormare's one-dimensional Hollywood villains... here's a chance to see him in his natural environment and much more truly disturbing than he usually is permitted to be."
‑ MaryAnn Johanson, Flick Filosopher
"Both gripping and disturbing."
‑ Philip French, Observer [UK]
"Enjoyable slice of Nordic Noir, enlivened by some atmospheric direction, a strong sense of place, an engaging, suitably dark script and superb performances from Lassgard and Stormare."
‑ Matthew Turner, ViewLondon
"Wintry in setting and tone but reasonably absorbing."
‑ , Scotsman
"False Trail may turn a little too conventional towards the showdown but it is well-paced and strongly acted."
‑ Allan Hunter, Daily Express
"A film stocked with more atmosphere than action."
‑ Neil Smith, Total Film
"Plot twists abound, but they don't detract from the strong character work done by the leads, with Coen brothers regular Stormare on especially unhinged form."
‑ Alistair Harkness, Scotsman
"Peter Stormare's best performance since Fargo."
‑ Martyn Conterio, Little White Lies
"False Trail is well-paced and strongly acted with the piercing sunlight and beautiful landscapes contrasting nicely with the monstrous acts that unfold in them."
‑ Allan Hunter, The List
