Mark Bourne, Film.com
The duplicated scenes from A New Hope are so shot-for-shot faithful that the whole project feels boxed in by its reverence rather than freed up to cut loose with the fearless bravado that we tune into Family Guy for.
-
Charles Cassady, Common Sense Media
Ribald but often hilarious satire of fantasy favorite.
-
Kevin Carr, 7M Pictures
instead of doing a half-hearted rip-off, they made a perfect match of the two pop culture phenomena
-
MaryAnn Johanson, Flick Filosopher
[T]here's something deeply, weirdly profound in both the intense love and the pop-culture philosophizing on show here...
-
Bill Gibron, Filmcritic.com
nothing more than a big hunk of bantha podo.

Funny spoof. Not memorable or anything but it made me laugh.

Family Guy spoof of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.

Family Guy: Blue Harvest kicked off the sixth season of the animated sitcom. The episode, the first hour long broadcast in the show's history, featured a nearly episode-long spoof of Star Wars with each of the show's characters portraying one of the famous heroes or villains from George Lucas' revered science fiction film.

One of the funniest spoofs I've ever seen, though not quite as funny as "Spaceballs".

A parody of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. Makes me nostalgic and the laughs are genuine.

A family guy fan's wet dream,so funny.

A laugh-out-loud, hilarious comedic romp from the brilliant minds of "Family Guy". It's very "Naked Gun" and "Scary Movie" like in the way they insert random gags, but this is still a very entertaining as well as sometimes genius parody of the first "Star Wars" film. If you're a fan of the show, you definitely have to see this. And even if you aren't, there's a good chance you'll still enjoy it anyways, since it's tight and has a nice running time.

I love Family Guy, but, not a big fan of Star Wars...they did well with it though.

Love-in for Star Wars fans with a care and attention lavished on it that only true obsessives will fully appreciate. Throws into stark relief the normally patchy TV show.

Just like an episode of Family guy but funnier and with more star wars jokes. Some of the jokes really sucked, but that's family guy for you these days. For example, the dirty dancing video of Obi-wan lasted a bit too long.

Family Guy doing what they do best. Making fun of anything and everything.
The parody this time is Star Wars: A New Hope, aka episode IV. Of course, you also have little jokes from older as well as newer films, shows, etc. There are even internal jokes from the Family Guy series. It is kind of funny how this landed on DVD since it is only 45 minutes. Maybe they should have covered The Empire Strikes Back as well, or just went more into detail with just this single episode. This definitely has room to be longer.

With that said, the episode moves really quickly and doesn't pay all that much to detail. Like the TV series this piece will get you laughing by using slapstick comedy without making you think. The difference between the laughs here and the laughs in the series is that you don't get them from ridiculous "flashback sequences." If you watch the TV series you will know what I mean. Speaking of watching the TV series, you will get more out of this by knowing the concepts of the TV show as well as Star Wars. You can still get laughs if you don't watch the show, but knowing the Star Wars story will really help.

The animation is just as cheap looking as the series, but they do take it one step further with the explosions and space fights. The real Star Wars soundtrack livens things up as well.

There is nothing more to really say about this except that this is a must see for Family Guy fans.

This was a hilarious and very well-done spoof. A few scenes could have been a little longer (the lightsaber battle especially), but that's the biggest gripe I have.

This extended episode is a remake of A New Hope, which works well by paying homage to the film, using shot by shot scenes, along with having a lot of fun with it, adding plenty of jokes, and having fun with the logic that goes with the movie.
Seeing as how I love everything Star Wars, I am easily biased towards saying that this is a great episode of Family Guy. It is especially noteworthy for all the detail put into this episode, along with the subtle moments that the big fans will catch, including the very title of this episode.

I can honestly say that Family Guy is currently my favorite TV show right now. Even if the show isn't always great, it usually makes me laugh most of the time. This is without a doubt one of their best episodes. Seth MacFarlane points out all the notable faults of the Star Wars franchise in a humorous parody, beginning with Episode IV: A New Hope (this episode of FG being named after a proposed name for Episode VI: Return of the Jedi).
Blue Harvest is the same plot as A New Hope, with the Rebel Alliance fighting against the Empire and their powerful Space Station, the Death Star. Hoping to find the location of the hidden Rebel Base on Yavin IV and also find stolen plans to the Death Star, Darth Vader (Stewie Griffin) kidnaps an important member of the alliance, Princess Leia (Lois Griffin). Unknown to Vader, the plans to the Death Star, stored within probe droid R2D2 (Cleveland Brown) are found by farmboy Luke Skywalker (Chris Griffin). Along with the brash pilot Han Solo (Peter Griffin), his co-pilot Chewbacca (Brian Griffin), and Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi (Herbert), Luke fights the evil Empire in hopes of saving the galaxy.
The best thing about these Star Wars specials is that Macfarlane and his crew do such a great job with it. It is full of funny jokes. Probably my Top 5 favorite jokes are (in no distinct order)
1. The Italians repeatedly saying 'Shut uppa'
2. The Red squad calling in (with names like Red Button and Red October being part of the group).
3. Luke (Chris) introducing John Williams, film composer for the series, only to later find him and his orchestra dead (during the same time he finds his aunt and uncle dead).
4. That same joke where Luke is annoyed to see that after Williams' 'death', they have to go with Danny Elfman, who is quickly killed by Luke.
5. When the group is evading the Empire, where Han (Peter) only slightly moves to the left. It may be simple, but is funny.
As you can see, this special has a lot of jokes. Definitely one of the best parodies of Star Wars which can definitely match with Thumb Wars and Robot Chicken. A Grade A episode of Family Guy.

Exactly what you expect from a Family Guy spoof with enough cultural references and Star Wars jabs to keep it interesting.
