Much more family-friendly and better than the original. The sequel definitely makes going to the movies worthwhile.

As a fan of the Silver surfer comics i have to say I'm disappointed. The actors are ok but the script and story are possibly the worse I?ve seen in a long, long time!
  • August 22, 2009
    didn't finish

Slightly better than the first, the look of the Silver Surfer is er...ice cool hehe the 4 are ok..alittle cheesey looking but ok. Again I've seen this type of story line before (planet eating baddie) but its not too bad, but not great either.

A worthy sequel with some great effects, an introduction to a new character and a mix of powers make an entertaining watch.
  • November 18, 2009
This movie is a horrible sequel and a complete waste of time.
  • November 12, 2009
    this was a good movie
  • November 9, 2009
As a Marvel/F4 fan, you'll dig this but other than that, I'm afraid it's nothing unique or really special.
  • November 8, 2009
The first movie in the franchise was just barely passable, which set a high level for this film to reach in order not to be ignored completely. It didn't quite make it. The only reason I've seen this is because it was actually on television and nothing else was on, unfortunately....( read more) A slow storyline and pathetic script was only barely carried by the cast who, admittedly, are not the most perfectly suited to superhero status.

Armond White, The New York Press

Of all the summer's big-budget action sequels, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer is the least painful. full review

Pete Hammond, Maxim

Sure, the CGI work is all pro and the Silver Surfer effect is a cool visual but the dumb lines and forced chemistry just don't cut it. full review

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer is more ambitious than its predecessor. It's also more cluttered and less fleet: The light, pleasingly casual quality of the first picture has evolved into so... full review

In Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, our heroes get what they deserve: a decent action flick with a jolt of visual wow. full review

Joe Morgenstern, Wall Street Journal

The film fails to sustain its modest running time of 87 minutes. full review

Although FF:ROTSS comes from the same place as Spider-Man (New York, and Marvel editor Stan Lee's noggin), this sequel to the 2005 Fantastic Four debut is lackluster, even by comparison to the lacklus... full review

The target audience appears to be Cartoon Network fans. Anyone outside that category is likely to find Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer a dull slog no avalanche of razzle-dazzle digital hooey... full review

Mick LaSalle, San Francisco Chronicle

Rise of the Silver Surfer doesn't aspire to much. It just happens to have the three things it needs -- velocity, artistry and a pretty good story. full review

Peter Travers, Rolling Stone

It's not egregiously awful like the first film. Just plain awful in that formula way that kills your spirit and all hope for summer movies. full review

Kyle Smith, New York Post

These B-list demigods are so proudly, intergalactically mediocre that both the 2005 original and the follow-up tend to disable my super-snark beam. full review

This movie was way better than the first one. The creators stuck to the story that was in the comic books. The only thing I disagree with is that the Silver Surfer does not get his power from his board. He can call his board back to him at will, and he can even recreate it if it is damaged. Other than that, excellent movie.
