My sister was telling me about this movie and I had to watch it. Okay, so they don't talk much in this movie, but the scenery was pretty cool to look at the whole time.

Two women, an older one who took in a baby girl and raised her pretty much as her own. They live on their o...( read more)wn away from other people moving from place to place. Unexpectedly one day, the older lady comes upon a man who's pretty much close to death and takes him in. Everything starts to change from then on and the ending is definitely worth it. lol

Here is an interesting movie that continued to dwell within my mind several hours after viewing. Intriguing and suspenseful story plot. Great cast- Michelle Yeoh, Michelle Krusiec, and Sean Bean. Definitely worthy!

Set during an unspecified time in the late-20th century, it tells of a woman (Michelle Yeoh) and her adopted daughter (Michelle Krusiec), living in the arctic tundra. The mother's voiceover explains early on, that a shaman said she was cursed at birth and would bring harm to anyo...( read more)ne she cared for. Flashback scenes reveal how this has previously affected her life. One day the twosome finds an injured, starving soldier (Sean Bean). They save him from certain death and emotions are stirred in their cozy yurt.

Now theres a thing. A character study of two women surviving in the harsh icy north somewhere with reindeers and igloos and the like. Very atmostpheric, kind of an arctic Cold Mountain (ish), then Sean Bean turns up, characters develop and it all turns gothic in the last fifteen ...( read more)minutes.

It's a slow movie, and fairly predictable, but serisouly disterbing. I saw it coming from a mile away but that does nothing to lessen the impact of the things she does to those around her, maybe the medicine woman should have told her mother her daughter would grow up to be a sad...( read more)istic, masocistic, murderer.

A horror film of sorts that doesn't reveal itself until the final scenes.

The Arctic. Saiva - once a solitary outcast, supposedly cursed - is now accompanied on her travels by Anja, a young woman she raised from a baby after Anja's settlement was wiped out by the soldiers taking over their homeland. One day the two women rescue Loki, a man found wander...( read more)ing in the tundra; he too is a fugitive. The three continue travelling together and, despite Saiva's warnings, Anja becomes Loki's lover. Anja tells Saiva that she is tired of the nomadic life and is leaving to start a family with Loki. Saiva kills Anja, slices off her face and wears it to make love to an unwitting Loki; when he realises what is happening, he runs off into the wilderness.

Sightseeing about North is wonderful. The last 5-10 minutes did not match me.

Nice Drama but I think they just took us into the mind of a very disturbed and crazy woman!
For all her best intentions, what she did in the long run was absolutely unforgivable! Can a sense of loss and betrayal really push someone over the edge like that?
Good acting by the cast but it would have been nice if night didn't turn into day so quickly!!!
Briefly, this is what happened: A dark epic tale set in the harsh beauty of the Arctic where SAIVA and ANJA struggle to survive on the frozen wastes. They are forced further North to escape Soldiers taking over their homeland and settle on a desolate island. One day a figure, LOKI, appears on the ice and collapses, close to death. Despite her fears Saiva saves him. When Loki recovers, Saiva and Anja compete for his attention. A passionate relationship forms between Anja and Loki which leaves Saiva isolated. When the lovers plan to leave for a new life together, a desperate Saiva acts with terrifying and tragic consequences.
