Even though I only watched this movie for the first time a couple of weeks ago I am struggling to remember a lot of this movie. Good brain, here. Sean Penn is good- that is all I will say.
It was funny. But boy was everyone just a little sex crazed. It's another classic 80s film. It was funny to see such a serious actor ( Sean Penn ) be a surfer dude like that.
There were some parts in the film which were quite funny but most of it was boring and you get the feeling you've seen it all before with teen high school films.
PAN AND SCAN. Episódica y liviana, pero muy bien hecha (escrita por Cameron Crowe). El factor nostalgia ochentosa pesa, también. / Episodic and lightweight, but very well made (written by Cameron Crowe). The 80s nostalgia factor weighs in, too.
Amy Heckerling strikes gold with this tale of LA teenagers done exactly as they acted in 1982, inspiring the whole valley talk thing, and riffs on the phrase, "totally awesome!". Sean Penn's best movie. Nick Cage's first flick. And who can forget the Phoeme Cates poolside scene, which is actually a fantasy by a guy in a pirate hat! Ha! That gloriously titilating scene was ripped off countless times in other movies, but here is the original. And the portrayal of the naughty young lovers who make a kind of sodrid and controvercial decision was played down, but actually quite shocking for the time. This movie is a sweet teen comedy and a dirty comedy all in one. One of the best flicks, and certainly the best of 1982. All others were imitating.
My favorite teen/young adult movie EVER made......a classic that never seems to lose it's charm with me. This is one of those movies that I watch pretty much anytime I run across it on tv. Love, love, love it!
Awesome dude! Bring back lots of memories.Second time around is better. Quite surprise to see a lot of big name stars(now) in the movie. (Forest Whitaker, Nicholas Coppola/Cage). I love the malls, game room and teen wet dream-Phebe Cates
classic 80's comedy about the high school years! sean penn's "spicoli", alone, is reason enough to watch this movie (although there are plenty of more reasons!). hilarious!
The best High School comedy I know of. Even The Breakfast Club can not equal this masterpiece. This is one of the best, if not the very best ensemble casts in a comedy ever assembled. Brilliantly written by a very young Cameron Crowe and wonderfully directed by Amy Heckerling(Clueless). One of the first teen films to ever featrue prominent & strong female roles.
a time capsule of the '80s and a fine example of high school woes and laughs: Make you cringe in the awkward and embarrassing while laughing at the outlandish and stoner antics.
Teenagers struggling with independence, sexuality, money, maturity and high school.
but it's more much more because it's the born of a new era in thge teenage of america is what brought everything that comes new to top what was there before and let's say Sean Penn whas the best!!!
and we can't forget the 2 great girls actress!!!
I love it! "I'm gonna talk to her tonighhhht" besides the sountrack, the movies infinately quotable. I wasn't surprised that the write went on to make films such as Jerry Maguire and Almost Famous
There are some classic moments in this film. There are some classic characters in this film. The acting in this film is overall above the standard of the teen comedies of the time. It just doesn't work overall as a film. As a drama it kind of drags and doesn't connect and as a comedy it isn't that great. It felt to me like an extended version of an episode of the TV show Fame. Still there are some really great moments.
with a whole enchilada of soon to be famous actor/actresses... you'd think this might be interesting and you'd be right-ish. look... there's rosewood from beverly hills cop! jason leigh went on to play some good roles, obviously penn (now that is hair!!!) nicholas cage was in it? flixster must be wrong. i never saw him. anyway ya get the picture... i think i even saw forest whitaker in there a couple of times. even though this was jam packed with soon to be greats and you could play a game of spot the celebrities... it was hardly a comedy... more of a teen drama infact. nothing here made me laugh out loud. for a teen drama it weren't bad.. but what exactly was happening in it? just kids tryna get laid? fuck me... that's a new one. still none of the old ones like this or porky's seem to compare to the more modern laugh a minute american pie
