Writing a deep, introspective review of Father Goose would be akin to applying chess strategy to a game of checkers. It is what it was intended to be; a light-hearted comedy with widespread appeal. Cary Grant is comedically brilliant, as usual, and Leslie Caron is nothing if she's not charming. There doesn't seem to be any romantic chemistry between the two of them, which works well for the first 90% of the film but makes the ending seem awkward and contrived. Otherwise, it's just good, clean family entertainment.
Cute, amusing, predictable. It represents a major change from Grant's usual role as the suave, debonair, clean-cut romantic figure to a scruffy, disreputable, alcoholic cad.
I loved Cary Grant in this role. It's a bit different from a lot of other characters he has played and I think he did it very well. A very funny and entertaining movie. Thumbs up!
Take one hard-core bachelor who was tricked into working as a spotter alone on an island during World War Two. Add one fiesty, proper schoolmistress and seven young girls, and what have you got? The setup for action, suspense, a little romance, and a lot of laughs. Beyond that, this movie is simply one of those "quotables" that you can keep laughing over even after it's back in the case. When's the last time someone told YOU they know how to ride a camel?
Cary Grant sheds his debonair image and portrays a cowardly misanthrope lumbered with a french schoolteacher and her class of young girls on a desert island during WWII. The romance is charming, it's exciting when the enemy appears and there are loads of laughs. Quirky and lots of fun.
Me and my sister used to watch this movie all the time when we were little! What can I say we loved the classics.
First of all Leslie Caron and Carey Grant work this funny movie together they both support each others character so well. Even all the little dames in it make it an even better movie!
I always liked this movie. Its funny and exciting at time and its great watching Cary Grant try to deal with all of these young school girls. Very good!
A very cute struggle between a seemingly gruffy man and a seemingly strict teacher which is quite the comedy. I recommend this for anyone looking for a classic laugh.
I love this movie it's one of Cary Grants (who kind of has a Gorge Clooney look in this) great slap stick comedys. and I don't think any one could have done a better job then Leslie Caron.
As far as romantic comedies go, this one is pretty ruling. True, I really don't like Leslie Caron, but she managed to be quite fun and a very intriguing character. The Cary Grant character was also awesome. He just threw out these one-liners one after the other. I also didn't find the children too irritating - that's definitely a plus. I wouldn't mind seeing this one again someday.
