This is the highest grossing film of all time in China. Hard to believe, as it's not really a remarkable film, except for Shu Qi, she's remarkable. When she asks her date if he believes in love at first sight he responds "I loved the first sight of you!" It's a very pleasant film...( read more). Funny, slightly quirky, it's an intimate study of two people's vulnerability, and thoroughly Chinese. I'm sure some of the humor was lost on me due to the fact I don't speak Mandarin! And Ge You's Mandarin accent is as thick as syrup. He does a great job playing a forty-something guy who's made his lot in life selling zany inventions and now has a very specific set of criteria he's looking for in a mate to settle down with. This is a great 'date' movie.

Amusing and enjoyable. I think director Feng Xiaogeng is successful in targeting the appetite of the audience in mainland China. Audience from other places might not be so impressed. Some say that the plot lack focus but I don't quite agree. I have to say that some scenes are not...( read more) so logical, such as the selling of the so-called "Dispute settling machine", the confession of
Ge You in the chapel in Hokkaido and Ge You disguised himself as a bear. Some of the conversations by Ge You are quite complicated. I suppose people don't speak like that everyday. Or maybe I'm too ignorant of the culture in China. Overall good cinematography and gives you lots of laughter.

Although not Feng's best work, like Cellphone, this film reflected many trends and how people are today in China. Beautiful cinematography and of course old/new actors all delivered good performances. However the plot lacked focus. Overall it was a fun movie and a good laugh

A light-hearted movie with quite a number of witty lines - Expect laughters but not tears. Btw, Ge You is the kind of gap gap middle-aged man that I really like! :)
