Plot: This film, which again pairs Richard Gere and Kim Basinger (who starred in 1986's No Mercy), offers up elements of classic noir: a hapless man becomes intimately involved with a beautiful bl...( read more read more... )onde who may or may not be who or what she appears to be. Dedicated psychiatrist Isaac Barr (Gere) reluctantly, and then more obsessively, becomes involved with Heather Evans (Basinger), the sister of his patient, Diana Baylor (Uma Thurman). Evans is unhappily married to a gangster (appropriately played by a muscular and menacing Eric Roberts in a trademark role). Gere and Basinger make a credible, if dangerous couple, and Thurman delivers a subtle, understated performance and demonstrates her range and potential.

The thriller is appropriately shot in gorgeous San Francisco, where the literal and figurative curving and hilly roads wind throughout. Credit legendary art director Dean Tavoularis for some amazing sets and scenes, notably the elegantly cavernous restaurant where Evans and her husband have a fateful dinner.

This film is, in a way, glossy director Phil Joanou's Hitchcockian tribute--as a climactic lighthouse scene best demonstrates. Final Analysis doesn't offer an intimate look at its characters, but a beautifully stylized one, moody and gloomy. The intricate plot experiments with the device of "pathological intoxication," in which the subject completely loses control after drinking alcohol. And this doesn't mean a conventional ugly drunk; it means a frightening psychotic. Good and evil, hope and despair, beauty and repulsion are often juxtaposed in the film's complex world. --N.F. Kim Basinger and Uma Thurman are fascinating. Well plotted and paced, and throughly entertaining all around.

This was a OK thriller. It did remind me a little of a Hitchcock movie with the lighthouse.
Kim Basinger looked lovely and unfortunately Uma Thurman didn't kick any ass in it.
It seems like Richard Gere has played this role over and over again.
It was the only movie on at 1am and I did watch the whole thing so it can't be all that bad.

One of the last true noirs to be made in the last 15 years. As annoying as I find Kim Basinger, I found this film pretty well done.

This was very good and very original. This one has twists and turns all the way to then end. Very entertaining. Kim Basinger in her very good looking days.

Not a bad suspense film about a psychiatrist who becomes a murder suspect. But I like Richard Gere and Kim Basinger as well as they reunited again since 1986's No Mercy.

The story went on and on with only one excuse, which is "pathological intoxication" which annoyed me a bit, and it was directed in a Hitchcock-y manner, but for a 1992 film, it doesn't seem appropriate... (laughing at the lighthouse climatic scene.. haha)

Gere and Basinger were "okay" i guess, but what did it for me was Uma Thurman, who despite playing the psychotic sister, was just sooo pretty. lol.

One of Richard's crazy thrillers...it was okay, I've only seen it one time, I'd probably watch it again.

Terrible wannabe take on the classic film noir genre. Gere isn't in his elemnet here but Basinger is excellent as a villain with attitude. Too bad the movie fails her performance.
