Funny at the first act, but, by the second & third act, it gets too preachy & too predictable.

A black morality tale... a nice twist from Cube's previous film outings. The comedy is still there, but throw in religion, guilt and the ghetto and you in for a good night.
If you like these kinds flicks.

Didn't really hit the target being a comedy, Katt Williams could have had more lines with his funny character.

This was a pretty funny movie.. of course Ice Cube and Tracy Morgan is funny in it.. but the 3rd would have to go katt williams. Hell yeah! Give this great movies a gander.. excellent story.
Critic Reviews
The movie is designed to be uplifting and inspirational, but everything about it is tired and listless. It doesn't so much make you feel the spirit as drain it out of you. full review
While we can't presume to know the Lord's mind, somewhere in the footnotes to the Ten Commandments there must be a rule about not using insipid piety to excuse incompetent comedy. full review
The film, written and directed by urban theater circuit playwright David E. Talbert, is far from polished, but it has a rambunctious energy that's hard to resist. full review
Ice Cube goes cold in First Sunday, a heist comedy in which the audience gets robbed. full review
With plot holes the size of boulders, it's a bad effort at wacky humor and schmaltzy redemption that plods and preaches gratingly. full review
This anemic vehicle for Ice Cube and Tracy Morgan to mug and jive through is just weak, weak stuff. full review
In First Sunday, Ice Cube departs a bit from the upright-citizen persona, playing a man driven to crime by desperate circumstances. full review
On the basis of First Sunday, it would seem writer-director David E. Talbert has been keeping close tabs on the creative recipe for success concocted by Tyler Perry. full review

January 12, 2008I SAW THIS MOVIE TONIGHT. WASN'T AT ALL WHAT I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE IT WAS WAAAAY BETTER. FUNNY AND TENDER AT THE SAME TIME. I WOULD GO SEE IT AGAIN. IT WAS REALLY GOOD ALL THE CHARACTERS WERE GOOD AND IT GIVES YOU SOMETHING TO BELIEVE IT. I WAS SUPRISED AT HOW GOOD IT REALLY WAS - IT WASN'T JUST COMEDY IT HAD A NICE MEANING BEHIND IT. KATT WILLIAMS AS USUAL WAS HIS NUTTY SELF AND A NICE SUPRISE VISIT FROM RICKEY SMILEY.
