Flashdance did for strip-tease what Pretty Woman did for prostitution, presenting a glamorous side/it's the world's longest video clip/the first MTV movie/worthless piece of junk/an Adrian Lyne movie with not enough sex scenes...I've heard all this complaints from younger viewers but for me this movie is like a time capsule, reflecting the 80's:life,spirit and style-music,choreography,hair-style,clothes, jewelry,accessories,make-up,etc.You had to have lived those years to fully understand the hype surrounding it...A half star bonus for nostalgic reasons...
saw when i was young and totally embarrased to say outside of michael jackson red piped jacket in thriller from the early 80's ive dressed like ms beals from time to time oh good god
o filme da minha infância (super sessão da tarde)
só nos anos 80 criariam uma dançarina que é funileira durante o dia. a trilha sonora é o máximo e combina com as faíscas da solda!
u gotta luv a good 80's vid!! and this is it...great music 2 go wit the dancing..i fink the guy who did the music 4 this did scarface as well!!! jennifer b did quite well acting as well especially her dancing!!!
Just a Steel-Town girl on a Saturday night Lookin' for the fight of her life
Well, I saw this on TV so no doubt it was cut a bit. Not as bad as I figured it would be but that isn't really a shining endorsement. Some of the dance scenes are pretty cool looking. The characters and story and the whole silly romance are just sort of there and who really cares. I think the main character has some potential to be interesting but she mostly remains flat. The songs are catchy, of course, and I liked the sort of subtle thing at the end of showing how she took all the different dances she learned to put together a routine to wow the judges.
And of course we have to end on the magically cheesy but always important freeze frame!
It is a fluffy little movie with a few cool and creative dance bits that drag it out of the sludge. Kind of a fun distraction but ultimately best loved for the sake of 80s nostalgia.
The music is flipping awesome, but the movie relies on Jennifer Beal's leotard more than it does her acting ability... But who cares? It's still a cult movie, and you should watch it just so you can say you have :)
Well... they didn't even dance. Dirty Dancing is a dance movie, but not this one. Get's a whole star because Jennifer Beals is a cute and good actress.
A classic. you have to truly appreciate the 80's pop culture to even stand the movie.
A little unrealistic when thinking about the plot line hmm.... a dream inspired 18 year old beauty who's a welder by day and eroitc dancer by night.
How many infamous scenes do you know just from it, it makes you think about how many people have actually enjoyed this film secretly and never admitted it. A total guilty pleasure unless you can just admit to being pleasured by the 80's.
I suppose it really does have an underlying meaning to it. Young adults striving for their dreams and all the struggles that they have to overcome.
All in all a good buy 2 for 1 Flashdance and Footloose. Who could pass it up?
Especially with those sweaty scenes of Jennifer Beals in leg warmers.
Kinda qookie, not gonna lie, but quite humorous when she tells everyone off and they just take it and move on. I loved the 80's music and found myself tapping my feet.
An 80s dance movie full upbeat music, some romance, and dreams. Oh! and let us not forget the then accepted fashion faux pas (i.e. socks and high heels).
