Although he loves his work, he has become so lonely that he turns to a phone-sex service. When Matthew calls, he is connected with Edna, a woman with whom he becomes obsessed. After he creates a painting of Edna being murdered, she winds up dead in real life. But then it turns out that the corpse isn't Edna's at all; in fact it's unclear whether or not she ever actually existed. So, Matthew attempts to figure out just who the object of his obsession actually was. In the process, he jeopardizes his own life.
