Tim McGraw, Maria Bello, Alison Lohman

Sixteen-year-old Katy McLaughlin dreams of fulfilling her family legacy by working on her father's ranch in modern-day Wyoming. But Katy's father wants more for her, insisting that Katy go to college...( read more  read more... ). Katy finds a wild mustang, which she names Flicka, and sets out to make her a riding horse. But, Flicka and Katy are more alike than she could have imagined. Like Katy, Flicka has a disdain for authority and is not about to give up her freedom without a fight. But, Katy's rancher father, the equally-willful Rob, sees nothing but trouble coming from the untamed animal and discourages his daughter from keeping her. Nonetheless, conflicted by a need to harness her own wild ways yet stay true to a free spirit within, Katy sets out to break through to Flicka and transform her into a riding horse.

Really cute movie! I love horses, and it was sweet to see how a girl could care about something so much that she would risk her life for it.

I'v had horses since I was 14, and ponies before that, since I was 10. I'm one of those girls that grew up with horses calendars and pictures on my wall, every book shelf lined with stories about books. The whole head over heels, horse crazy, nine yards.

So while I love horses...( read more), it is my extreme disapointment that Hollywood almost always manages to ruin movies on these magnificent creatures (*cough Seabiscuit cough The Horse Whisperer cough*).

    Flicka, though, is a revolution.

I admit, it is a girl's movie. I don't know how many guys are seriously going to say "Cool! Let's watch Flicka!" but no one can deny that this is filmed in a beautiful area, with some fabulous cinematography, and damn decent actors.

Alison Lohman does a terrific job in her role, as does Maria Bello as the wise mother/mediator, and look! Tim McGraw is more than just one of the most amazing country music stars/Faith Hill's husband. He really can act!

Something I found interesting, too, is that the music director is Jason Alexander. I don't know if that is THE Jason Alexander of Seinfield fame, or just someone with the same name, but he DOES star two of country music's Brad Paisley's music videos AND was in the musical Cinderlla (the one with Brandy), so it's possible. I thought it was neat how people get into circles and really how intertwined music and film is.

Standard film, mediocre, nothing further, worth one watch or two.

Good movie. Though it might be a little predictable, it kept my interest.

Fantastic. Lohman really rocked in this role. It is weird seeing the story with a female lead but what the heck...

McGraw is a better actor than you'd think!

The thrill of riding a horse through a country side is a feeling unexplainable. That's why, when you know that feeling, being inside can make you go insane. It's the fear of being caged. To stay behind bars until use and old age accept them and all chance of valor has gone beyond...( read more) recall or desire. The want to be free. To answer to no one. Flicka. (:

I found this to be a really beautiful film. The locations were fantastic. Some of them looked gorgeous. The acting was great. Alison Lohman did a terrific job as Katy. Some of the horse scenes, epescially the chasing, was shot very well. The characters are all interesting, each w...( read more)ith a sweet side that you can easily take a liking to. The coming-of-age theme is used very well with the character Katy, and a lot of the other characters, including the wild mustang Flicka. The other thing I loved about this was the family struggling with their money. I thought they handled this type of theme really well with the storytelling and characters. This isn't just a cliche' "horsey" film for little girls, it's something that everyone will enjoy, even the boys. I'd even call it a great family film. It's beautiful.

This Flicka may not be a classic, but it's a nice afternoon's entertainment, particularly for girls who ride wild horses in their dreams. full review

Sentimental but not cloying, Flicka is family-friendly entertainment that hits almost all the right notes, even though it is playing the same old song. full review

Before my sister in law and neices watched this movie we had a bet. We would not need kleenex. We were wrong. This was a absolutely wonderful emotional movie and some parts sent us over the edge. It was just as good as the movie dreamer. I am such a fan of these type of movies and this one I gave high ratings for because it was great all around.
