I'v had horses since I was 14, and ponies before that, since I was 10. I'm one of those girls that grew up with horses calendars and pictures on my wall, every book shelf lined with stories about books. The whole head over heels, horse crazy, nine yards.
So while I love horses, it is my extreme disapointment that Hollywood almost always manages to ruin movies on these magnificent creatures (*cough Seabiscuit cough The Horse Whisperer cough*).
Flicka, though, is a revolution.
I admit, it is a girl's movie. I don't know how many guys are seriously going to say "Cool! Let's watch Flicka!" but no one can deny that this is filmed in a beautiful area, with some fabulous cinematography, and damn decent actors.
Alison Lohman does a terrific job in her role, as does Maria Bello as the wise mother/mediator, and look! Tim McGraw is more than just one of the most amazing country music stars/Faith Hill's husband. He really can act!
Something I found interesting, too, is that the music director is Jason Alexander. I don't know if that is THE Jason Alexander of Seinfield fame, or just someone with the same name, but he DOES star two of country music's Brad Paisley's music videos AND was in the musical Cinderlla (the one with Brandy), so it's possible. I thought it was neat how people get into circles and really how intertwined music and film is.
this movie was amazing!!! i totally recommend it!!! it defintiely reignited my love for horses, and how much i really really want to own a farm!!! i love ryan kwanten, he's great, such an awesome actor!!! but i have to admit, i prefer his aussie accent =D
I love this movie because its heart warming and its an adveture movie that goes to show that it takes a lot more than friendship to over come somethings in life
16 year old Katherine "Katy" McLaughlin (Alison Lohman) has big dreams of Wyoming horse ranch with her father named Rob, (Tim McGraw), mother named Nell (Maria Bello) & older brother named Howard (Ryan Kwanten). Katy spends time with spend time with a stray mustang when she named her Flicka. Katy's brother; Howard wants to go to college convinced by his girlfriend, Miranda (Kaylee DeFer) but his father wants him to inherit the ranch. Katy is surprised her parents present her with Flicka bandaged up by the vet. Katy learns her father; Rob typed up her essay had written out & sent it to school final in so she could pass for year.
Predictable, cheesy in many places, and pretty weird seeing Tim McGraw acting rather than singing, but apart from all that I still really enojyed this film. There were plenty of reasons why, firstly I love horses and therefore films based around them often interest me, and more importantly I really wanted to watch this film for Ryan Kwanten, and it turns out he is just as lovable as he was when he was still on Home and Away playing Vinnie - and his character was the sweetest brother anyone could ask for. Alison Lohman is a really good actress as well and she brings Katy to life. You can totally feel her pain and emotion everytime something goes wrong with Flicka.
This movie hit way too close to home for me. I have never cried so hard during a movie. It wasn't even that good of a movie. It does have a cool setting--Wyoming ranch country, however I wouldn't reccommend sitting down and watching it. The story isn't as good as it could have been.
Saw this movie with a friend mainly for Tim McGraw was in it. We both fell inlove with it. We cried,we laughed, we cheered and we even had to look away for one short scene
A beautiful story about a girl and her horse and what shes willing to do to keep the horse.Kind of like watching Black Beauty a bit.Tim McGraw is one of the best country singers but this was the first time i seen him act and he was good.
Better than I thought it would be... We rented this for my daugter, and I kind of got sucked into it. It is fairly predictable, but overall it is a nice family movie.
