A rather good remake which is equal to the original. Heck of a soundtrack too, this one i could re-watch. Think one of the actors is a relation Tony Curran. :D
-
Great movie in which an oil rig crew is stranded in a desert after thier plane has to make a crash landing. Model airplane guy gives them hope and they start to build a new plane.
-
It isn't the most cohesive of films but there is enough there to warrant it's success. Ribisi's performance has been bagged but he shows as the standout actor next to Dennis Quaid.
-
I honestly had high hopes for this movie because of the previews but that's what they get paid to do.......throw out a good preview to make you want to see the move.....but in short it was a let down....found it kind of boring. GIOVANNI RIBISI is still my FAVORITE.

This was on late night T.V. after a footbal final that, yes... i did watch when after a second wind and an Australian actress in Miranda Otto on the cast. I ended up rivited to the end in a succession of small catastrophes along the way of a extreem conditions survival film. Quaid plays both the Older mature captain and the hot shot looked up to by fellow character and when put in an equal terms situatuion like this relishes in fact of submission to a chain of command helps with order and efficiency but groveling dosn`t go astray .. not to much. Death and dissapointment coinside with the silent pause for moral in 'kill or be killed' plus merciless fact in mercifull killing.
Pretty good from the production team too. for location shots, allmost artistic. -
Music was used badly, the bad guys were the most interesting, everyone were annoyingly melodramatic etc. etc.
-
Ribisi and Laurie underperform in a rather unnecessary remake. Nice sound design and cinematography though.

Survivors of a plane crash in the Mongolian desert work together to build a new plane. But there is trouble

Sometimes its really so frustrating when things no matter how hard you try dont work out, but it gets a lot of perseverance, and patience then all is well that ends well

A good disaster movie that was worth watching. I might be interested in seeing the original someday.

B movie with potential. If you can ignore the Hollywood ending, the irrrational and occasionally downright stupid decisions the characters make and some technical irregularities you will be entertained. For there are some good stuff here to. Beautiful landscapes, a couple of great effects and a visual style that occasionally glimmered. The combination of characters felt reasonable and kind of fresh, acting was acceptable (mostly) and this film had the greatest benefit any film could have for me. Hugh Laurie! He was hilarious and he alone made this an almost pleasant viewing experience. But over all, I feel that a nice idea, a great concept got lost in a sterotypically structured hollywoodmovie. Somewhere along the line it became cheap, and that's a shame. But they did spare us the obligatory lovestory. And for that, I am very greatful.

Really, Really good! It was amazing how they made the airplanes and flew them, when they were only models!!!

A group of air crash survivors are stranded in the Mongolian desert with no chance of rescue. Facing a brutal environment, dwindling resources, and an attack by desert smugglers, they realize their only hope is doing the impossible... building a new plane from the wreckage of the old one.
I don't get why people hated this movie. Sure its a remake and the first one was a lot better but in a stand alone view of the film, its actually pretty amazing. You watch this film and you compare it to the first one, that's not the point of this film. This is supposed to be a fresh take on the 1965 film because back then there were no special effects like we have it today. This one wasn't supposed to go against the original, this was like a tribute or a homage to the first one because it was really good back then. The cinematography was above excellent, an amazing shot of the desert smuggler shooting the guy in the brown jumpsuit in slow motion was amazingly well done, it gets me everytime I watch it.
The storyline was decent. Its not just a story about survival, its a story about hope, unity, faith and redemption.

Was good but dissapointed because Jared Padalecki's character went missing for most of it and he was the reason i actually watched it!
-
Flight of the Phoenix was a decent movie, Dennis Quaid could've been more exciting in it, but I did like the ending.
-
I have this on dvd and have watched it and it is an awesome movie because of Jared Padalecki one major hottie
-

I honestly didn't think a film that pretty much takes place in a single portion of the desert would be this good. Flight of the Phoenix isn't anything original, but it isn't crap either.
The plot takes no time in the beginning to build up characters, but rather gets to the meat of the story rather quickly. Less than 15 minutes into the film you are already in the middle of the desert and this is where you stay until the very end. The only unfortunate part about this is that the setting stays the same. The inside of a plane and SAND. If you remember a few sentences ago, I said that the character buildup doesn't come at the beginning. Instead it comes in the middle as the characters figure out a way to get out of the desert. This offsets the lack of depth in the story.
There is little to no action in this film, but it doesn't need it. Like I said, this takes place in the desert, not a war zone. I can only imagine how this film could have gone if Michael Bay was attached to it. No character development and unnecessary action sequences.
The acting is better than expected. Dennis Quaid is alright and Miranda Otto pulls off the only female nicely. Surprisingly, Hugh Laurie finds a way to fit in. The most memorable character belongs to Giovanni Ribisi. Not only is he different, but you love him, you hate him, and then love him again.
The story for this film is pretty thin, but the variety of characters and the good ending more than makes up for it. If you don't mind looking at sand all day, then this is the film for you.

It's Lost in the desert. A high-octane action-thriller. A non-stop joy ride from begining to end. It keeps you going on every explosive and exciting turn. It's adrenialine pumping and heart pounding. One of the best adventures films in years. A great and fun movie. A sensational cast of great talents. Dennis Quaid is teriffic, as are Giovanni Ribisi, Miranda Otto and the always great Hugh Laurie. Compelling, exhilerating and satisfying entertainment.

Acting was so bad. I don't know how so many inconsistencies can fit into a single film. Here's a thought: Don't make the antagonist more likable then the protagonist. Elliott was right 100% of the time and Quaid's character was a douche. Despite all of this it had an element of entertainment to it, so I won't give it a half star.

Something you see at daytime when you wanna kill time. Sure had lots of good actors Dennis Quaid (from the wonderful movie Undercover Blues), Mirando Otto (Eowyn from LOTR), Giovani Ribisi (Kid brother to Nicolas Cage in Gone in 60 seconds), Hugh Laurie (Dr. House) and Tyrese Gibson (Roman in 2 Fast and 2 Furious), but the plot itself was a little weak. Good have been a little better.
Also Jared Padalecki (Dean in Gilmore Girls) was in a little at the beginning. -
If you're making a remake of one of the best and most memorable movies of the 60s you gotta live with being compared with it. Surely this new version aims a different audience, using Outkast and Massive Attack songs, a few sometimes neat sometimes over the top camera tricks and merely really well built men. It's actually the scenes that are very different from the original that are most convincing, especially the pretty exciting first encounter with the bandits and its disturbing outcome. But the movie lacks the same charm, the powerful dialogues and interesting characters of the original, despite of a pretty convincing cast. So in all, an entertaining but not really necessary remake for a hipper audience.

This wasn't too good.. not worth watching actually.. but if I'm not mistaken I've seen some parts from the movie on the TV a couple of years ago.. didn't remember much.. so I watched it again today.. not really worth watching! So stay away... =)

DTS mixes can get you only so far and even though the plane crash is impressively mixed, the film is ridiculous in the way it picks off it's cast members like a teen horror flick. Dennis Quaid is better than this.
