David Suchet is great but I always enjoy his films........well except for one...lol. As far as movie is considered it was ok but felt it could have been better, Good enough to watch it on T.V. ..which I did.
Awesome natural disaster movie set in the UK. Check it out.
I read that this movie was not any good. Good thing I don't always listen to the "critics" and read some regular movie goers reviews.
This film takes place in the UK. A deadly hurricane and high tide wreck havoc on Scotland. It appears that the storm is heading west away from England. But it has a mind of it's own.
For decades one man has been telling the powers that be that the Barrier - the mechanical wall between the Thames and the powerful ocean had a major flaw. They didn't listen. He lost his family due to his continued work in trying to prove his theory was right. Now everyone sees that he is right - way too late.
Hooray! Finally a movie about nature disasters who takes place in Europe!=O Oh my one half extra start just because of that.
Flood actuly exceeded my expectations. You can clearly see that the director want it to look like a Hollywood production but I think that he shouldn't have done that. There are very many simillarities with the movie "The day after tomorrow", which I think is unbeatable in it's cathegory. So no...he should have tried to make something new and not have Hollywood as inspiration all the time. Sometimes this move got very predictable and cliché. But it was alright, and as I said it was very intresting so watch a movie about nature disasters which take place in Europe.
Smacking of a made for TV film, this was a nice antedote to the usual American overblown disaster film that is quite popular.
There's a love story and an estranged parent story that you take or leave. I was quite intrigued about how possible the disaster actually was (the actual disaster is apparently quite close to what will happen when the polar ice caps melt).
Its nice to see a British film that appears like an American film with all its realistic tricks. The only difference is, on acting, actors aren't so aggressive and facial expressions are nearly blank or doesn't go by the situation. but still, its a movie worth seeing.
Flood can be disastrous specially when people make wrong decisions or simply fail to foresee and study certain eventualities.
Emotional element: This film features emotional relationships between parents and children. Sometimes children fail to stop look and listen. They fail to see the bigger picture about their parents. Its only lately that they realize the reason why everything happened as they did. And for all they know, it was too late.
Same thing with parents. When they ignore their family over personal issues.
a city is about to be annihilated by flood..
the protagonists of this movie were father and son who were marine engrs..
the problem is their relationship is not that good..
as the movie goes by, they forget and need each other for the sake of all..
but the worst happened that the father died as he opened the gate to stop the flood..
the sad thing is that they were not given second chance to be a good father and son..
A disaster movie with the same theme story like The Day After Tomorrow kinda. A big flood wave on the way towards England's coast line. This movie haven't got the real big hit effects and feels almost like a Tv movie sometimes. But a decent one and well worth seeing with Robert Carlyle in the head role. Overall an average flick which could have been better in some areas..
A British version of 'The day after tomorrow'. Its a magnificent film. Loved every second of it. Good effects with the storm and with the actuall flood.
Robert Carlyle (an actor i have never heard of before) is a fantastic actor in this film. Not many people liked this film but i loved it!
Cripes!! - London under water - glug glug. Don't forget your swimmers. Is an ok view for a lazy evening/afternoon - you'll think twice before going on the underground again.
Not a great disaster movie but it was fun watching London flood. I enjoyed it purely because I could see local landmarks underwater. Not really worth a repeat viewing though (8.6.08)
Excellent special effects make this disaster move very plausible. The sets are very authentic looking. A good choice of music rounds off the film nicely. Acting is good and the presence of David Suchet adds some weight to the cast of course. Compared to other movies of this genre, Flood is right up there with the best of them.
this film was ok, not amazing, not great but ok. the cgi was kinda sucky but at the same time was cool as got to see london flood. there were parts in the film which were stupid like robert carlyle swimming under water to get the dingy free PLEASE like you could swim in the current. and also the fact people just didnt go on roofs. but what can you expect from this english film. in all its a decent watch despite robert carlyle being in it as he sucks in all his films i hate that man...
Not exiting at all. kinda predictable and without edge. A catastroph movie needs something special to make it worthwhile and this one laked it. Some cool views of a flooded London thou.
It's a sad fact, because of the shoddy camera work in the beginning of the movie, you know what to expect in terms of special effects.
The pace was terrible, you could easily fast-forward 20 minutes, because all that has happened is people talking about a flood coming.
The characters weren't interesting and the constant "we survive anything" became boring quickly.
Many of the actors seemed bored with the movie, especially some dude who is in a deadly situation, he just casually walks and looks bored to death. This shows a lot when the other dude is really trying to live the role and acts panicked.
But my biggest problem : The movie was TOO LONG!!!
I was longing for it to end and it was still another hour to go!
Quite an eye opener, especially as it actually nearly happened recently when a storm was threatening to make a tidal surge all down the east coast of england (then last week it happened again on the west side!)......global warming, they predicted this would start happening!!
This is a fairly decent disaster film. It's a nice change to see a film of this type set outside New York for change! Some of the acting is pretty dour....the old guy playing a marine expert is especially bad, talking at the same pace and tone no matter what the scene. However the SFX in places are impressive and shots of a flooded London are believerable. Overall it would have benefitted from a bigger budget, but it is still watchable.
