However, his athletic and restless spirit caused him to get into trouble constantly, and he soon bailed out of school to go on and have a series of amazing adventures at least as wild as anything he portrayed as a movie star in the 1930s and 1940s. He was the living embodiment of the swashbucklers he portrayed onscreen.
