Finally Judd Apatow delivers a movie that I actually enjoy. For all its vulgarity, Forgetting Sarah Marshall carries a lot of authentic human emotion and interaction, and the movie ends up being quite sweet. There were scenes I could have done without, but overall, it was an enjoyable movie experience.
Jason Segel plays a lovable schlub who gets dumped by his famous actress girlfriend.
Guess who he runs into when he goes to Hawaii to try to cope with his heartbreak?
Russell Brand is hilarious as Sarah Marshall's new rock star boyfriend. Jonah Hill and Paul Rudd have funny supporting roles.
Once I got over the fact that I was hearing the voice of Meg from Family Guy, Mila Kunis impressed as a free spirit hotel desk clerk.
The only thing is, what are the odds that a hotel desk clerk is way hotter than a famous TV actress?
They just don't make comedies like they used to. Whatever happened to movies like Some Like It Hot, Bringing Up Baby, City Lights, and stuff like that? Putting a lot of sex into a movie doesn't mean that it's funny. A funny movie needs to be very well made with a terrific script. I'll agree that Forgetting Sarah Marshall was for the most part well made, but the script lacked quite a bit. All the comedies are the same these days. We need a twist pretty soon!
Yet another priceless gem of a comedy from the Judd Apatow posse. 'FSM' stars Jason Segel, who also wrote the screenplay, as Peter Bretter, a musical scorer in the fictional TV show "Crime Scene". He is so much in love with his celebrity girlfriend Sarah Marshall, played by Kristen Bell. All is in cloud nine until Ms. Marshall decides to dump Peter for an oddball rockstar Aldous Snow, played by Russell Brand. Being so broken hearted, he decides to take a breather and heads off to sunny Hawaii. Immediately after arriving in the hotel, he discovers that his ex-girlfriend is also taking a vacation with his oddball boyfriend in the same hotel so it only means one thing: Hawaii isn't as sunny as it used to be.
After a slightly disappointing Walk Hard, Judd Apatow and his posse easily redeems themselves in this flick. Its laugh-out-loud funny, its raucous, its wild, its what a romantic comedy should be like. The days of Harry and Sally is over, romantic comedies just took a nosedive into the land of frontal male nudity, cussing and puppet musicals about Dracula. Get used to it.
As much as I like Jason Segel's character, I'd have to say oddball rocker Aldous Snow stole the show from the lead. Oh my god, that dude is helluva funny. I can't stop laughing everytime I see his face when he's having sex with jealous Sarah, oh my god, its priceless.
Overall, a nice addition to the Judd Apatow hilarious movies of all time. Its up there with mythical legend "40 Year Old Virgin" and "Knocked Up"
i feel this was another home run for the apatown.......this movie was filled with quotable's from start to finish.....and it was hilarious to watch this man......be so hurt....emotionally.......because it was played so well....by jason segel..i liked the comedic like background cast....and i think all the lead charactors were also played good...........or...maybe i'm just a apatow fan....i dunno........
If last summer was the summer for decent Apatow related films like superbad and knocked up this summer is the one for total crap with the zohan and this wonderfully horrible film. The movie was incredibly long and entirely boring. The characters are all dumb and the only thing it encourages about relationships is that it's ok to cheat on each other and feel sorry for yourself. It couldn't decide whether it should be a comedy or serious drama and in the end I found myself not laughing and entirely bored. The jokes were lame and the only thing I learned is that if you don't want critics to tear apart your movie get Judd Apatow to produce it. Terrible film in every way!
a comedy that doesnt make me see it again. there a several reasons for that, main reason is j. segel. he is likeable, but miscasted imo. the other thing is a predictable story which is just boring. dont wanna spoil the ending, but this was also no work by a genius ;)
This movie was not as funny as people were making it seem. It did have some funny moments though. I dunno, it wasn't anything special but still entertaining.
A funny, heartfelt, and even a tad emotionally complex comedy about a man attempting to foget a girlfriend who just keeps turning up everywhere he goes. It doesn't sound like a hilarious premise and it's not, with Judd Apatow movies, it's the charact...(read more)er interactions that produce the laughs, the small remarks, wry discussions from the eclectic casts of familiar comic faces and random people. Anyway it's a very, very funny unsentimental, yet touching romantic comedy. "VAN HELSING!!!!"
This movie is so much better the second time you watch it, I just think since you already know the story you start realizing all the funny things in it.
Ahhh So cool,I love this!Such an excellent cast,I don't think Casting directors get enough credit, they should.Anyway RIDICULOUSLY funny.Russel Brand and his comedy stole the show for me,he is freakin hilarious. Its laughs all the way through and then some.If you like comedies this will do the trick.SEE IT!! P.S. The Dracula Song Rocks (The Bar Version!)
While good in some parts, it doesn't quite succeed like the rest of the Apatow and Co. films. Segel is great and I found him to be a well-rounded, humorous, self-deprecating character. He is the best part of the film (the naked scenes about killed me, but I love the hug thing that goes along with them). I felt like Jonah Hill didn't have the comedic impact that he did in Knocked Up in a supporting role, and the rest of the cast seemed to be just filler for their roles (the Brit. dude did make me laugh some). Overall, it was more of a charming picture than it was a good comedy. While not necessarily bad, it just wasn't what I was expecting and therefore, I'm kinda disappointed.
First: Don't believe the hype. Second: This movie is all about the supporting actors.
No offense, but Segel, Bell and Kunis are not very good. They're not the best actors and they're not really all that funny. However, Brand, Hader, Hill and Rudd are hilarious. If you see the movie, plan on sitting through some of the main actor dribble and waiting for the hilarious punch lines, timing and expertise of the real comedians. I've been telling everyone all along that this movie will not be that good, and it isn't, but it is worth seeing to laugh your face off every time some non-main actor comes into the picture. I hope movies don't truly capitalize on the rap world strategy of throwing tons of useless characters in a movie, and splashing some real talent just to sell tickets and save money, however, it's a trend I think we should get used to.
I was not fooled by the trailer and I called it way before it was even out that the only good comedy would come from cameo's, and voila, I was right... I remain unsurprised in this fact.
All my friends told me it was really sweet/funny, and I unfortunately let my expectations get ahead of me. I'm not gonna lie, the guy was pretty sweet and adorable (except for that part when he tried to get back with Sarah but I know that was an unf...(read more)air situation), but the funny moments weren't too memorable and Jonah Hill's comic touch felt wasted. I think the best parts were when Segel sang, the puppet show song and the bit about seeing a psychiatrist.
So, this movie was pretty hilarious! I was so excited when I heard that Jason Segel had written this movie. I've been a fan of his since he was on Freaks and Geeks back in the day. Plus, this movie starred Kristen Bell, who I am a huge fan of from Veronica Mars! The movie does have some sad moments and awkward moments, but it is overall pretty funny, charming, and original. Check it out!
Forgetting Sarah Marshall has proven to be one of the funniest movies that I have seen, and will surely not be forgotten. Judd Apatow has succeeded yet again with his new comedy which is very much a romance/disaster movie.
Jason Segel is Peter Bretter, who within the first couple of minutes of this film has been dumped by his girlfriend, Sarah Marshall. The two work together on a TV show, 'Crime Scene'. Sarah being the lead star of the series, with her boyfriend Peter being responsible for the dodgy sound effects on the show. This has always left Peter out of the spotlight, with Sarah being known everywhere as the star of the show. So when Sarah comes home one day to find peter wearing nothing but a towel and reveals that she doesn't want to be with him anymore, you can imagine that Peter doesn't find this very good news. In-fact, he drops his towel and sits confused and paranoid thinking about life without Sarah Marshall.
So Peter, left broken hearted, seeks out advice from his brother, Brian. To Brian it seems that the best thing for Peter to do is go away on a holiday and escape everything that is reminding Peter or Sarah Marshall. But who does Peter find there at the Hawaiian resort, none other than the very person that he had been trying to escape, Sarah Marshall.
As you can imagine, every situation in this is turned comical. Whether it be laughing for the circumstances of what is happening to Peter, or at the uproarious themes and references from other characters, Forgetting Sarah Marshall is a film that can guarantee you laughs.
As well as being a Judd Apatow picture, director Nicholas Stoller also contributes hugely to this film's success. But mostly the credit goes to the multi-talented Jason Segel. Not only did he have the lead role in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, but he also wrote the script which is the basis of this film's entertainment. He is a true star and I admire what he has put into this film, a great comedian and incredible actor. Kristen Bell as Sarah Marshall also gave an exceptional performance, giving the viewer a clear view of her character and feelings towards Sarah Marshall. Mila Kunis and Russell Brand were also admirable with their performances, Russell Brand in particular providing many entertaining scenes. Bill Hader, Jonah Hill and Paul Rudd were also hilarious and largely contributed to this film even with their smaller roles.
Overall, Forgetting Sarah Marshall is an intriguing and extremely entertaining flick somewhat similar to movies like Knocked Up or Good luck Chuck. If this sounds like your thing, then I strongly recommend that you see this for a laugh and some enjoyment.
Loved it. I could watch this film again and again. Full of actual humour, unlike most of these ten a penny "comedies" coming out of america these days. Very smart, full of real and very likeable characters. Highly recommended. The Apatow gang are very soon going to be Hollywood royalty if they keep this up. Brilliant.
I was in a good mood when I went to see this, so I laughed quite a bit. It has the same humor as 40 Yr Old Virgin, Knocked Up, etc. Not quite as hilarious though. Overall decent.
I have to say, I absolutely loved this movie. When I saw the trailer I thought it would probably be funny but nothing much. When the movie started, I knew this would be much better than I expected. Jason Segel did a fantastic job with a script that not only is pretty damn funny but also works as a romantic comedy. The characters all seem very human to me as there is no real bad guy to root against. Which is normally how things work, different shades of gray. I really laughed out loud many times during the movie. Mila Kunis is beautiful and very good in this movie and the same goes for Kristen Bell. Also, the cameos from Jonah Hill, Bill Hader and Paul Rudd were awesome.
