Shot in a gorgeous b/w, this is by far the cutest, most compelling, most beautiful Tim Burton film ever.
Everything in it is simply unforgetable and lovely and the way Burton manages to pay homage to everything he loves (from old horror movies to dead dogs) is extraordinary. "Frankenweenie" has a soul more than most Burton films that only have charm and dexterity without the spark (no pun intended) this one shows through its wonderful 29 minutes.
I loved every single scene inspired by the original Frankestein plot, from the deliciously annoying angry mob to the last five minutes: a full charge homage to the original movie we all know, even if we haven't seen it. The angry mob carries flashlights instead of torches and Sparky (the Creature) runs into a windmill... inside a miniature golf! How wonderful adaptation! I appreciated that the whole Frankestein family's universe was so perfectly created that you are able to believe a dog comes back from the dead. Another delightful Burtonian suburb.
I was kind of sad when seeing it because I found out about Barrett Oliver's retirement from movies and I was disappointed because he did a tremendous job here. Every single casting choice is pitch-perfect-Burton and I have no idea why Daniel Stern is not a Burton-boy like Depp, Christopher Lee or Jeffrey Jones, as he is simply Burton-esque. Both him and Shelley Duvall are hilarious, specially in their 2 minute in-bed conversation, one of the best moments of the film.
Overall, the film is simply beautiful and I hope intelligent kids everywhere are able to see it because they will be rewarded with an awesome memory for a lifetime.
I really couldn't tell it was from the early 80's, except for Barrett Oliver. Great re-telling of the Frankenstein story.
You will love this movie. it's frankenstien in it's own cute little way. woof. woof (sarcastic expression on face)
very good idea and i loved the dog but i think if Tim Burton would have had more money to make it and stuff like that it would have been better
i have to said in the moment you begin to see it you know is tim burton the colors, the trama is super
This was a little on the boring side, and doesn't really have much of Burton's characteristic flair, probably because this was a very early work. Not wonderful, but the kids might enjoy it.
One of two of Tim Burton's early short movies featured on the "Nightmare Before Christmas" DVD. "Frankenweenie" is Tim Burton's take on the "Frankenstein" tale with a young boy played by Barret Oliver that resurrects his dead dog Sparky that died from getting hit by a car. A good short movie with the typical Burton style of directing.
An early Tim Burton effort is actually really, really good. A creative story that is a play on the original Frankenstein story. It is the story of a young boy (Oliver) who is upset when his dog is hit by a car. During his period of sadness, he decides to bring him back to life. We all know how it'll go from there. An extremely good way for Burton to begin his career. Recommended.
Another early Tim Burton gem. This film takes on the feel of 'Frankenstein', but instead of pieces being used to create a person, a boy brings his dead dog back to life...
A Tim Burton short. As it IS Burton's work, it's an odd short at that. A dog is killed by a car and the young boy owner tries to bring him back, with disastrous results.
it's wierd...this movie was really interesting to watch. tim burton rockz!!!!!!!!!! <<<333
and it's wierd because we all know that Disney movies r the new face of corporate evil and it could transcend Christianity!!!!!!!!!!
It's in the special features of the Nightmare Before Christmas DVD - I really need to get around to watching it.
This is a great movie!
If you liked James Whales' FRANKENSTIEN then you'll love the story of a dog brought back 2 life by his owner. It has a similar plot and story as FRANKENSTIEN, but with a dog, And is directed by Tim Burton, so u kno his is going 2 be a creatively different movie!
Okay, some of you might think this movie is stupid. Most people probably haven't seen it, but you should. It's very very short but it's good! I love it but I'm probably one of the few who do!
Cute short film take by Tim Burton on Mary Shelley about a boy who reanimates his dead dog. Shot entirely in Black and White, this early short is classic Tim Burton style, from the eccentric characters to the almost papier-maché sets. (Note: included on Nightmare Before Christmas DVD)
This was once a tag-along to another Tim Burton movie (can't remember which one, perhaps NBC extras?) and I thought it was quite good.
haha, Marv from home alone... and this type of dog is the best... I want one, well... actually either way is fine with me, living with it's first live or living with it's second.
A crazy early Burton short which introduces us finally to his unique style of filmmaking, humour and magic. Not bad at all.
81/100
wow que divertido, un super kortometraje, super divertido y kurioso, algo que solo tim pudo haber hecho!!!
This unknown and overlooked film is quite simply the most "Burtonesque" of Tim Burton's films, and paradoxially, the most charming.
I enjoyed this short film before I even knew it was directed by tim burton. Great short film, i recomend it
What's this? A film combining the directorial talents of Tim Burton, with the acting prowess of that kid from The Neverending Story? Hohoho.
