Gene Siskel, Chicago Tribune
The murderous Jason is back in the latest chapter of the most offensive series in film history, unless Burt Reynolds makes three more Smokey and the Bandit pictures real quick.
-
Kevin Carr, 7M Pictures
Although the first four sequels had their own brand of tongue-in-cheek horror, Part VI marked the first step into overt campiness of the series.
-
Steve "Uncle Creepy" Barton, Dread Central
Double dip back into Crystal Lake, my friends, without worry -- the water is perfect!
-
Jeffrey M. Anderson, Combustible Celluloid
This may be my favorite of the Friday the 13th series, mainly because of the winking, insider humor; it's almost like a precursor to Wes Craven's Scream ten years later.
-
Jeremiah Kipp, Slant Magazine
Better than the second and third entries in the Scream series, this sequel is one elaborate in-joke about itself, and if you like the series you might have affection for what it's trying to do.
-
Jeremiah Kipp, Slant Magazine
While there's a superficial been-there-done-that, why don't-we-just-mock-the-whole-thing quality to this entry in the series, it certainly livens up what has become by this point a stale franchise.
-
Steve Biodrowski, Cinefantastique
Writer-director Tom McLoughlin strives to bend the familiar FRIDAY formula into a throwback to an earlier era of horror monsters. The results are mixed...but you have to give [him] credit for trying.

Steve Crum, Video-Reviewmaster.com
Does Jason ever die? On with the franchsie.
-
Stefan Birgir Stefansson, sbs.is
Jason pretty much kicks ass
-
Tim Brayton, Antagony & Ecstasy
It's kind of a nice film, and nice exploitation films are nobody's idea of a good time.
-
Alex Sandell, Juicy Cerebellum
Gives us a couple of good, self-referential laughs ... the film is probably the most enjoyable of the series, but it isn't the best.
-
Ed Gonzalez, Slant Magazine
Of note: Electricity will figure prominently in just about every Friday the 13th entry from this point onward.
-
Eric D. Snider, EricDSnider.com
The sixth installment in the thunderingly mediocre series features no nudity whatsoever. Surely this is an editing mistake.

Fred Topel, About.com
The best Jason until Jason X. Has a sense of humor and a good story.

This film is, by far, my favorite entry in the entire series. In the film Jason is resurrected. The result is the best version of Jason that was ever created. This is the introduction of the super-human, methodical zombie version of the character. It's a pleasure watching Jason slaughter a cast of watchable victims, with purpose. The other welcome addition, was the warped, and intended, sense of humor. The comedy worked here, because even without it, the series was already becoming a parody of itself. Normally, I dock these movies for the lack of continuity, but this one gains points for disregarding the wretched "A New Beginning". This is the most fun you'll have watching Friday the 13th.

And now we come to my favorite film in the series just for the pure entertainment of it: Friday the 13th Part 6 - Jason Lives. This is the sequel that should have happened instead of the one that came before it really. Instead of sticking to the previous Friday formula, director Tom McLoughlin decided to completely rework the formula and not just make it satisfying to the fans of the franchise, but also entertaining and even humorous for newcomers. It puts a cap on the quality of the series while at the same time honoring horror films of the past with visual and story references abound, including the electrifying rebirth of Jason ALA Frankenstein. This was also the film wherein Jason first became the superhuman zombie that he is best known for. There is nothing human left about him and he can take the same amount of punishment that he dishes out. The film is also a step in quality in a lot of different categories. The performances are fantastic, the script is dynamite and the film is endlessly well-shot & edited. Henry Manfredini even comes up with a new type of Friday score that reflects the changes that have come with the new formula. Of all the sequels, I can watch this one over and over again because of how entertaining it is. It's too bad the series couldn't keep up this kind of quality for the rest of the sequels that would follow, try as they might. Part 2 may be the most well-made entry but Part 6 is certainly the most enjoyable.

I dont remember if this is one of the ones that has a "local crazy" in it, but those are just the greatest. I know atleast 3 have the crazy old rapist who sneaks into the camp and watches them have sex, just as Jason does, and then he hears twigs snap and we see him turn around horrified with a butter knife in his eye. But its cool cause youre thinking, "thanks alot Jason. there were two psychopathic toothless sex-offenders loose in the town and you had to kill the one with a nice personality."

Jason doing what he does best. Armed to the teeth and brought back to life via lightning, he is now even more unstoppable. I think this is actually one of the most enjoyable movies in the series. It has a lot of campy performances, but the story is really interesting and a nice change of pace. The death scenes are just out of control and Jason's love for crushing is featured, even though his moment of triumph is punching through a guy's stomach. Turning Jason into a full blown zombie demon is genius, there's no better or easier way to bring back a character postmortem.

Jason Lives is my favorite one in the series. Not as bloody as the others, but fun, fun, fun, fun. One-liners up the ass and GREAT characters. Camp Blood was never this much fun!

After Part 2 and Part 3 in the series, Part 6: Jason Lives is quite possibly The best Friday sequel there is. It's certainly one of my personal favorites and is a terrific new twist to an already legendary franchise. The film combines elements of old Friday The 13th films with elements of mid 80's fashion and music. The soundtrack was written by Alice Cooper. Heavy Metal and Horror films= one awesome film. After Tommy Jarvis murdered the false Jason in part 5, Tommy goes and exhumes and tries to destroy Jason's body. Unfortunately, after impaling the corpse with a metal spike, lightning strikes it and awakens Jason, and a whole new era of killing begins! I really enjoyed this sequel because it blended comedic elements with horror elements and of course a rocking soundtrack. This film will appease any Friday fan and of the sequels that came out after part 5, Jason Lives is definitely the best one. Sit back, and enjoy as Jason picks up where he left off in the Final Chapter. The kills are entertaining and the film is filled with blood soaked amusement. Enjoy!

I've seen Friday the 13th Parts 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6. Without a doubt, so far my favorite of them is "Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives." It's not the scariest or the goriest of them all, but it has a great storyline and it's a great horror movie. Tommy Jarvis, who was a kid when he killed Jason, is back in this captivating sequel to make sure that Jason Voorhees is really dead once and for all. He goes to the graveyard and digs Jason up only to find that he's still alive and is now on the loose again. He tries to convince a cop that Jason is still alive, but the cop thinks he's insane. Tommy has to get past the cop who won't believe him if he wants a chance to kill Jason and save some people from getting killed.
Anybody who likes the Friday the 13th movies should like this one. I recommend it to anybody who likes great horror movies, it's one of the best ones that you could get. NOTE: That was my Amazon review from the year 2000

Tommy (Thom Mathews) wants to make sure Jason's really buried in his grave and digs him up for the corpse to get struck by lightning, resurrecting him from the dead and another killing rampage.
Tom McLoughlin delivers a Friday that doesn't take itself to serious, making it a better film and creating the Frankenstein of our times. The acting still is subpar, but we're used to that by now. It's a fearful little jaunt to Crystal Lake.

A pretty fun addition to the franchise. First of all bringing back Jason is a major bonus and it seems as though McLoughlin has realised that slashers are more fun than frightening. So we get little comedic gems such as a James Bond opening (gun barrel style) and even a character breaking the 4th wall. Funny and gory it truly resurrects the series along with its main character. Not ground breaking, but certainly one of the best in the series.

The last in the Tommy trilogy, has Jarvis, who is apparently still at a halfway home (I'm assuming his stay was extended after his "freak out" at the end of part V), needs some closure and decides to cremate Jason's body. Things go wrong, Jason comes back and is quite pissed and commences to reaquire his old stomping grounds now called Forest Green. McLoughlin turns the series around briefly with this humorous, tongue-in-cheek sequel that lightly pokes fun at both the series and slashers overall.

From its spectacular, squirm-in-your-seat opening to its exciting finale, "Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives" delivers. Still haunted by his killing of the masked maniac two films ago, our hero Tommy Jarvis (Thom Mathews) ventures to Jason Voorhees' grave just to be sure he's really dead. When a lightning bolt strikes the metal fence post Tommy uses to puncture the corpse, Jason is resurrected (remind you of someone?) and ready to hack his way through another terrified group of campers and innocent bystanders. But with no one ready to believe that Jason is indeed back, it again falls to Tommy to put evil in its place.
The "Friday the 13th" series got back on track with this installment following a Jason-less fifth entry that remains a bitter disappointment for many horror buffs. Director Tom McLoughlin struck a magnificent balance between breathing a new life into the franchise and maintaining the look and feel of what fans have come to expect. The picture is fast-paced, smart and, at times, legitimately scary. Jason suddenly seems more evil and terrifying given his newfound strength as a member of the Walking Dead Club. McLoughlin's oft-praised attempts at humor are rarely successful, but at least he chose (wisely) not to mock the zombified star, as the most recent Jason films have.
"Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives" is not Hitchcock, but it is a highly-entertaining effort that never once reveals its low-budget limitations. Horror fans and those looking for a good scare will be pleased.

Jason Lives! After the blasphemous mess of sequel number 5,' Friday the 13th Part 6' resurrects Jason Voorhees once again to continue his rampage of slaughter in one of the best sequels in the series. It gets of to an electrifying bloody start and the pace never drops, it's action all the way! And all without a bare ass or exposed breast in sight. It's the only sequel not to feature a glimpse of nudity - but that just leaves more room for the hacking & slashing to take place. There really isn't much logic to these movies, just detach yourself from your brain and enjoy the ride.

Starting with the James Bond type of opening, this movie is great comedy, with an indestructable zombie Jason killer. That's not to say it doesn't have some scary and suspenseful bits. I liked a lot of the jokes; some of them poked fun at the Friday the 13th series itself. The extended scenes with the Sheriff and Tommy at odds were a bit boring. There were some great kills in this one, including the taking out of a weekend paintball group of executives. The filmmaking was a glossy quality production; the series had let go of its grainy independant look of previous chapters. They even cast a new actor in the role of Tommy Jarvis, and threw away the suggestions from before that he might become the next killer. There were some custom songs by Alice Cooper included. And, for once, we get to see a summer camp actually populated by children! The counsellors are all fun and likeable. There's a great end battle in the lake with Tommy and Jason. A fun chapter in the Friday the 13th series, as it goes in a comical new direction.

Probably the most shown on UK TV for some reason? Has a very camp feel to it, almost becomes a comedy at times.

-
The best of the bunch. It brought a little more action to the film than the others and looked slicker due to the bigger budget.
-
Jason returns from the dead in his grave, but hero Tommy from parts 4 & 5 never gives up to defeat a serial killer.

'Friday The 13th: Part 6 - Jason Lives' and thank godness he does! This hidden gem is a fresh entry into the 'Friday' series. Fingers and toes the series continues going uphill from here. Fingers and toes people!

Jason Lives is the last film to add a meaningful element into the Jason lore. The first introduced the concept, the second introduced Jason, the third introduced the Hockey Mask, the fourth made the machete his primary weapon and now the last know bit of Jason lore is added, the undead invulnerability. Jason was always a tough nut to crack before but after a Frankensteinesc jolt of lightning the homicidal psychopath is back in zombie-like form and practically indestructible. After this film each entry would add a more supernatural or sci-fi element to the series, none of which would last.
