Friday the 13th, Part VI - Jason Lives Reviews and Ratings

Jason doing what he does best. Armed to the teeth and brought back to life via lightning, he is now even more unstoppable. I think this is actually one of the most enjoyable movies in the series. It has a lot of campy performances, but the story is really interesting and a nice c...( read more)hange of pace.

  • September 28, 2009
I like the way the makers didn't really take this one too seriously but I did get a little bored towards the end. I think by this point too much time has been spent at crystal lake, every slasher sequel should have a different location, that's all that differs from the original i...( read more)n most cases!

A very worthy sequel(After the disappointing "A New Beginning"), and the introduction of Jason as not just merely a serial killer but a supernatural force(The lightning resurrection), an immortal entity that just won't quit until he's satisfied with his kills. It's also fun to se...( read more)e Thom Matthews from "Return of the Living Dead" as Tommy Jarvis, Jason's lethal foe. The only problem with this installment is its decrease in scare value, but overall, "Jason Lives" is good, but still nowhere near my favorite "The Final Chapter".

A contender for the best in the series.

jason is pissed off yet again so beware.bye far my favorite one in the series
  • August 25, 2009
By this point in the series, there was really no question that Jason was going to continually be resurrected, so perhaps it isn't as distressingly absurd as it might have been that he's simply jolted back to life by an errant lightning bolt. Heck, why not? It didn't even matter a...( read more)nymore. That said, Tom ("One Dark Night") McLoughlin's "Jason Lives" represents a significant improvement over the previous "New Beginning", largely by virtue of its slicker direction and a story that's serviceable (if nothing special). Taking over for John Shepherd in the role of Tommy Jarvis, Thom Mathews squares off against not only a now Frankenstein-like Jason, but also the local police (led by David Kagen's seethingly angry Sheriff Garris) who think he's responsible for all the slicing and dicing this time around. As a "Friday" film, "Jason Lives" dishes up the usual kills (some are imaginative, like the death-by-liquor-bottle scene, or a guy who gets folded in half the wrong way, while other such gruesome moments are uninspired). Thankfully there's a bit more gore this time around, but the MPAA's clumsy fingerprints are still readily apparent, as most of the juicier moments end up as quick cuts and hasty edits (good job, guys... everybody knows that fake blood causes crime). McLoughlin directs with an eye toward creepy, semi-gothic atmosphere, and he sometimes brings a bright dash of wit to the proceedings... witness the survivalist yahoos who telegraph their fate by literally putting on headbands that say "dead" on them. Unfortunately, the push for a more comic edge also leads to silly gags like Jason imitating James Bond, or a guy's face smashing into a tree and leaving behind a smiley face (how is that even a joke?) There's a fine line between clever and clunky, and for my tastes, "Jason Lives" often stumbles over it, playing for cheap sitcom-y laughs instead of a more subversive brand of humor. It's a pity, because McLoughlin, who clearly set out to make a funny "Friday", ironically demonstrates a much more solid grasp of scares and chilly ambience... I ended up wishing this one would have been played a little more straight.

I've seen Friday the 13th Parts 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6. Without a doubt, so far my favorite of them is "Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives." It's not the scariest or the goriest of them all, but it has a great storyline and it's a great horror movie. Tommy Jarvis, who was a kid when...( read more) he killed Jason, is back in this captivating sequel to make sure that Jason Voorhees is really dead once and for all. He goes to the graveyard and digs Jason up only to find that he's still alive and is now on the loose again. He tries to convince a cop that Jason is still alive, but the cop thinks he's insane. Tommy has to get past the cop who won't believe him if he wants a chance to kill Jason and save some people from getting killed.
Anybody who likes the Friday the 13th movies should like this one. I recommend it to anybody who likes great horror movies, it's one of the best ones that you could get. NOTE: That was my Amazon review from the year 2000

Brilliant installment of the franchise! so much better then the ill-receieved part 5 as it manages to be funny, gory and just plain fun as it brings back everyone's favorite hockey-masked maniac to life.

Where would my life be without Jason Vorhees? I grew up with these movies, and out of the 13 or so that have featured our hockey mask hero, this is my fav. BEST ONE OF THE SERIES!!!
  • May 21, 2009
I still didn't see all of the Friday the 13th (although I am Jason Voorhees; but we don't watch what we live; do we? ;) ), but almost all, and this one was the worst; uncounting Freddy vs Jason who disappointed me a lot; contrary to the excellent Aliens vs Predator. But AvP 2 is ...( read more)really less good.

It's a pretty good film anyways, cause of the immortal serial killer we love, and so many ingredients of the series, but they anyways fall a bit asleep on their laurels writing this script.

I've been disappointed by the fact they changed Crystal Lake to Forest Green, but it's clearly understandable as it's to try to clean the name of the city of its awful story, reputation.
And they anyways very often call it Crystal lake all along the movie.

But we get what we want, a lot of deaths (18 on this one in only 90 minutes, wow) by so many different ways, so, a lot of suspense, and shot in beautiful places in forests, so, it's clearly not a movie to miss; at least if, like me, you like to see an entire series, although not all movies can be great.
Otherways, if you aren't a great fan of Jason, there are dozens of better horror movies than this one.

My favorite Friday. It has it's share of technical problems (the whole motorboat fan part at the end makes no sense when you compare how deep under water Jason was), but it's still fun to watch. Jason was on vacation but in this part he has return, obviously a Friday th13th without Jason isn´t a Friday the 13th, so what did they do? Bring the old Jason back in a very dissapointed and boring film.

    Skip it!

This redeemed the franchise after A New Beginning. It's funny as hell, it's over-the-top, and it's just plain fun. It's also the goriest Friday the 13th film, by far.

This movie is pretty great it has a gret story line, except for the whole Jason ressurecting, and the acting wasn't half bad I especaily liked the relationship between Tommy and Megan. My favorite sequel in the 13th series. Love the chessy "brought back from the dead by lighting" thing. Plus one of the best posters in horror histiory. This movie is almost like a spoof to all the other 13th movies.

It might be hard to believe that the sixth installment in a series could be the best, but that's definitely the case with Jason Lives. This movie just does all the little things right and is a blast to watch from beginning to end. It just goes to show that if you pick th...( read more)e right writer/director for the project he can take the most basic of concepts and turn it into gold. Lets take a look at the first adventure of "zombie Jason".

Jason Lives has always been my favorite in the series and I'm pretty sure it always will be. I highly doubt someone is going to come along and "get" this series better than writer/director Tom McLoughlin did. He realizes that being Part VI people aren't scared of these movies anymore....and I find it hard to believe they ever were in the first place. Tongue is firmly planted in cheek with this movie, while still treating the series respectfully. Not an easy task to accomplish. The best and simplest way to describe this movie is that it's just fun! The characters are likable, the kills are brutal, the jokes work, the atmosphere is creepy and everything moves along at a great pace.

Of course this is still your usual "hack & slash" formula, and aside from the bits of comedy there isn't really much new here. But this is Friday the 13th! And in respect to that it delivers everything a Friday the 13th fan could want. Jason's resurrection (Frankenstein-style) is in perfect taste, the Bond-ish opening credits are classic, the Alice Cooper rock adds to the fun tone of the film and there are a ton of great one-liners ("some folks have a strange idea of entertainment"). This is also the first film since the original to actually take place at Camp Crystal Lake (most people probably think all the films do). It's also the only movie in the series to actually feature children at the camp. Another highlight is bringing back the Tommy Jarvis character for one final round with Jason. After appearing in Parts 4, 5 and 6, he was the closest thing Jason ever had to a nemesis and it's a shame the character vanished after this movie. Thom Mathews also gives the best performance out of all the actors who've played the character (sorry, Feldman). C.J. Graham also gives a good turn as Jason. Now that the character is literally a walking corpse he's put through a shit-load more punishment. Too bad Kane Hodder wasn't given the opportunity to come into the series one sequel sooner.

I just can't say enough great things about Jason Lives. It's just such an enjoyable, bloody, violent, hilarious, cheesy, fun time. I really wish they would've brought writer/director Tom McLoughlin back for further installments, as he's one of the few that actually gets what works in a Friday the 13th movie. These movies are supposed to be fun, not scary and overly-serious. I highly recommend Jason Lives. It's a great time for fans (and non-fans) of the series and, sadly, is probably the best Jason rampage we'll ever see put to film. Great fun!

Jason returns from the mutilated, rotting dead in Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives. There's a little more plot in this one, kids. Tom McLoughlin delivers a Friday that doesn't take itself to serious, making it a better film and creating the Frankenstein of our times. The acting still is subpar, but we're used to that by now. It's a fearful little jaunt to Crystal Lake.

Synopsis: Tommy returns to the grave to make sure Jason is dead and accidently brings him back to life. Now it's up to Tommy to stop Jason's mindless killing and put him back where he belongs.

Review: After supposedly dieing at the end of Final Chapter, Jason is back from beyond the grave. Tommy Jarvis is back, too, but has nothing really to do with what happened int he last installment. In fact, he's almost a completely different character. Jason looks great as a zombie, almost as if he walked right out of 'Return of the Living Dead'. It gives us a couple of good, self-referential laughs ... the film is probably the most enjoyable of the series, but it isn't the best.

Martin: Why'd they have to go and dig up Jason?
