What exactly can I say about FRITT VILT that hasn't been said already. Well for starters, in a world overdosed on allegedly scary slasher movies this Norwegian film actually delivers with a terrifying atmosphere and genuine suspense. It's an old and tried storyline, take five tee...( read more)nagers and place them in an isolated location, this being a long abandoned hotel with a violent killer on the loose inside. However, what differentiates FRITT VILT from the rest of the pack is it's sharp direction by Roar Uthaug who manages to keep the same old clichés of the genre interesting. He does this mainly through the characters. Here we have five friends who emote a sincere affection for each other and for this reason we grow to like them. Unlike most other slasher movies where the characters are cardboard cut-outs simply used to increase the body-count and showcase gory effects these characters drive the story along and all have a purpose within the movie that serves the plot. So when we watch them die it becomes upsetting and genuinely disturbing. In particular the first murder is increasingly harrowing and while watching I felt a terrible pity for the person. Another reason it succeeds is the fluid cinematography by Daniel Voldheim who paints each shot with atmospheric lighting and shadow so the darker scenes generate true claustrophobia and tension. The soundtrack by Magnus Beite is wonderfully haunting, moving and terrifying while the performances by all involved are incredibly accurate, particularly Ingrid Bolso Berdal as Jannicke who provides a compassionate heroine whom we quickly grow to love and in the end we truly feel her anguish and pain. This is an outstanding movie within the slasher genre and a sterling example of Norwegian horror.

I thoroughly enjoyed it. No big review as it's just another slasher but it was very well done.
The star of it all is Ingrid Bolsø Berdal who plays Jannicke. She looks a bit like a mixture of Sigourney Weaver from Alien and Milla Jovich from the Resident Evil films depending on th...( read more)e camera angle. She's definitely hot whatever the case though.
If you want to see how the Europeans are doing horror now then this is for you. Do not watch the dubbed version though, use the subtitles!
Sympathetic characters and brutal deaths in snowy Norway. Just what you need during the unbearable heat of summer.

40 minutes before the first kill, no gore, characters I could care less about and a killer with no presence at all.
Geez no one knows how to make a damn slasher anymore.

a Norwegian horror movie (I ended up watching it with the subtitles but caught dad watching in English. can?t stand seeing people talk & it not go along w/ their lips so I?d rather the subtitles) anyway this again was suppose to be like the most scariest movie in Europe (well tha...( read more)t tells me they?re a bunch of cowards over there.. no offense) but there?s nothing in there that?s scarry its like its trying to be Friday the 13th. I already knew who the killer was from the beginning. However touring through the cabin was interesting (if you want to call it that) been there seen that! D

American horror filmmaking has become so inept nowadays, it's a miracle that there is any fanbase for it at all. Leave it Norway to produce a minor, but rather excellent entry into the slasher pool.
There is nothing in Cold Prey that is remotely original, or unpredictable. But ...( read more)that's okay. Cold Prey is completely without pretension. You know exactly what you're going to get. It presents characters who for once don't act like bumbling idiots, who you actually care for and hope will survive. And the suspense is executed well. There are some very nice fake outs, a lot of care put into the sets without making them seem overstylised, and a faceless killer who is a pretty big badass. Cold Prey is simply that age old American "dead teenager" formula, just that for once, it's done well.
Any horror movie that keeps its villain faceless is to me in a lesser category than one that dares to deal with the psychology of said killer. So don't expect Cold Prey to be anywhere in the same league as The Shining or the brilliant Let the Right One In from Sweden. But for an hour and a half of slasher fun, I can recommend this to horror fans only with enthusiasm!

One of the best horror movies I've ever seen. No doubt, one of the coolest slashers out there, with the killer being a VERY good character!

Very good horror movie, with lots of scary scenes! The cast was quite good, I actually got quite involved with the characters and felt sad when they died. The twists and turns of the plot are fairly predictable, but there was some stuff I didn't se coming! All in all, a cool l...( read more)ittle horror movie that's great.

Yes yes, I've seen it all before, nothing new here! Very strange that a killer waits until the kids had a party with booze and sex before he starts slaughtering! In every movie and also in this one. The only difference is the scenery which was particularly beautiful here. If this...( read more) movie will be your first horror thriller ever you will probably like it.
    Positive: no dumb females.
Negative: Boy gets angry 'cause his girl doesn't want him to fuck her, he leaves the room in anger and when he gets remorse he returns to apologize and finds her slaughtered. Original? Uh... not really.

This Norwegian slasher takes too long to start, and is too dull when it does. Techincally, it's efficent. The acting is ok as such movies go, it looks decent, it doesn't overstay it's welcome (it's only 90 or minutes long), but the first act drags, as does the beginning of the se...( read more)cond, and then things start to pick up, and all the characers prove how dumb they are. The characters aren't sterotypes, which is nice. There's no "asshole" or "nerd" or "slut", they all felt like real people, but once the killings started they did the dumbest things possible, like leaving their injured friend alone so they could all split up and find the murderer. The final last minutes are fun though.
