From Dusk Till Dawn Reviews and Ratings

action horror flick starring George Clooney, Harvey Keitel, Juliette Lewis and Quentin Tarantino. directed by Robert Rodriguez.

brothers Seth and Richie Gecko (Clooney, Tarantino) are criminals on the run. they encounter Jacob Fuller (Keitel) and his family at a motel and end up...( read more) taking the former priest and his family hostage. the Geckos decide to take the Fullers with them to meet up with their contact at the strip club The Titty Twister, on the boarder of the US and Mexico. but what lies within the club is more than just sex and booze and soon the criminals and the hostages find themselves working alongside one another to survive.

this film is why I love Rodriguez. he isn't afraid to go to the line of cheese and tiptoe along it. he always manages to find that balance between over-the-top silliness and just enough silly to make for a fun and good time.

gore. comedy. action. boobies. good stuff! ♥

I actually really liked this! Its like 3 genres in one! Great!

This movie went beyond crazy. It goes from a story about robbers to a story about bloodthirsty vampire strippers. The performances were all perfectly over the top and the dialogue was pretty toned down from the average Tarantino script. Only Robert Rodriguez could have pulled thi...( read more)s off with such style.

AHHH - the old Titty Twister Bar and Grill, where men are men and cockroaches are nervous. Where to go with this one...watched this again for the 10th time recently. This is the days of George Clooney's ER days when he was young and wasn't so pompous and self satisfied that he ...( read more)didn't enjoy the smell of his own farts so much. You can tell in his acting. I actually enjoyed his ahole character immensely.

This movie has one of the most memorable, sexy scenes of ALL TIME (thanks Kanye West!). This was my introduction to the goodness that is Salma Hayek naked. Hayek strip teasing while fooling around with the giant Albino python. The whole bar watches while she pours booze down her leg to her toes in Tarentino's mouth. Not very hygenic but who cares! Makes me want to do shooters! Who wouldn't pay $100 dollers a shot for that? I could definetely do without the funk she picked up on her feet from those beautiful Mexican bar tables.

The sun then goes down and all hell breaks loose as Cheech grows fangs and Salma's head turns into a cobra, which is kind of a downer as that does nothing for me... HOWEVER, there is a guy with a cool codpiece that turns into a gun. I imagine any sort of kick would be fairly painful but, well what the hell.

Quinten Tarentino's character is sort of who I imaging QT to be like in real life. Goofy, a little psychotic, and a ass load of wierd...

Does anyone else think Juliette Lewis is creepy? ?? Or is it just me?

Robert Rodriguez directed this bizarre and fun twist on the horror genre (from a clever screenplay by Quentin Tarantino). George Clooney and Tarantino are Seth and Richie Gecko, a couple of badass criminals on the run in Texas. They hijack a family (led by now faithless ex-preach...( read more)er Harvey Keitel and lovely young daughter Juliette Lewis). The band of outlaws takes to a Mexican strip bar called the Titty Twister (an absolute triumph of production design!) and finds that they are not in Texas anymore (well...duh!). Soon, this motley crew is forced to face down an army of vampires (including Salma Hayek as queen stripper Satanico Pandemonium!). This sleaze-o-rama grade-zilch horror story is preceded by a good hour or more of well-written if cliched crime movie material (Stockholm Syndrome, anyone?). Still, the performances and Rodriguez's loving treatment of the genre elevate the material to near-art.

Dusk Till Dawn to me, is to vampire movies, what Shaun Of The Dead is to zombie movies. Just a really good silly and funny vampire movie. Loved the cast. Juliette Lewis was great, loved George Clooney and Tarantino. It has to be one of my favorite vampire flicks.

The first half is utter brilliance. It has the obvious trademarks of both Rodriguez and Tarantino and the outcome is a gripping crime story. The second half is utter brilliance for other reasons...an action film with vampires! How can you not love the outcome of the two mixed tog...( read more)ether?

The screenplay by Tarantino is brilliant (as always), even when it does go onto unfamilier Tarantino turf with vampires. He manages to make the screenplay stand out at all parts of the film.

Rodiguez directs with a great fast pace and uses imaginitive editing (which he did himself) too.

The acting is great. Clooney is the best of the film and the ebst iv'e ever seen of him so far. Also, surprisingly, Tarantino is brilliant too. It is great to see him in more than just a cameo.

This is a unique film that is almost impossible not to like.

Part crime thriller and part horror movie. The second half is like Assault On Precinct 13 but with vampires.
  • October 14, 2009
Definitely some positives about the movie. The opening sequence succeeds in making you dislike these guys. The acting of Ernest Liu makes you appreciate more the acting capability of Juliette Lewis. The dance by Salma Hayek was amazing. It was interesting to see Cheech in 3 diffe...( read more)rent roles. However, other than that, the rest of fairly average. Some of the effects and sets/scenery and even directing was good, but not good enough to make a significant difference.

The original is so cool, scary and gory. Great vampire splatter! Tarantino's presence adds to much power and coolness to the film. Two thumbs up.

  • September 26, 2009
A great Rodriguez and Tarantino collaboration in a clever mash-up of gun-toting criminals and uber sexy, ultra-violent vampires.
  • September 23, 2009
Two good things, George Clooney doing a great job as a motherfucker and Salma Hayek dancing. The rest of the film is funny but not very good.
  • September 22, 2009
Great film. Two films in one really and the first time I saw it, I didn't have a clue it was a vampire movie. The script is a bit annoying at times though.
  • September 20, 2009
It is good but a bit too gory for me but before the vampires appeared it was really good, tarantino was a bit disappointing but george clooney was so cool :)

A sheriff pulls up to an isolated liquor store in Texas called Bennys World of Liquor. Once inside he speaks with the shopkeeper. He then goes to use the restroom. As soon as he is inside the bathroom, The Gecko Brothers, Seth [George Clooney] and Richie [Quentin Tarantino] appear with two hostages and gun pointed at the shopkeeper apparently in the store the whole time. Seth threatens the shopkeeper and tells him to be cool. The sheriff returns shortly after and goes to pay. While talking to the shopkeeper, Richie kills the sheriff with a point blank shot to the head. Seth and Richie argue because Richie claims the shopkeeper mouthed Help Us. As the shopkeeper yells to defend himself, Richie shoots him in the shoulder. Seth and Richie argue and Seth decides to leave. As they are leaving the shopkeeper jumps up and shoots Richie in his hand. They all start shooting and the gunfight. The hostages escape and the fight is ended when Seth throws a lit toilet paper roll dosed with light fluid at the shopkeeper who was covered in alcohol killing him. They leave as the liquor store explodes. The brothers then check into a motel with their one remaining hostage and they discuss their plan to flee to Mexico and meet Seths contact, Carlos [Cheech Marin] for sanctuary. A news story is shown about the Grecko brothers and they atrocities. Seth returns to the motel to discover that Richie had raped and murdered the hostage. Seth scolds Richie. The brothers then run into Pastor Jake Fuller [Harvey Keitel], his two kids Kate [Juliette Lewis] and Scott [Ernest Liu]. They kidnap the family and hijack their R.V. forcing them to drive to Mexico. The group is stopped at the border and the R.V. is searched but the brothers are hiding in the bathroom with Kate. They eventually make it through and on into Mexico. Soon after they enter Mexico, they arrive at an eccentric bar called The Titty Twister. Seth gets into a fight with the bouncer [Cheech Marin] and they all go inside. Once inside, they have a few drinks and enjoy the girls dancing on the tables. Soon Santanico Pandemonium [Salma Hayek] performs. Towards the end of her act, the bouncer returns and tells the bartender and the other what happened. When they confront the group, Richie pulls out a gun and one of the bartenders stabs his already shot hand to the table and another gunfight ensues. The brothers come out on top again and Seth goes to look at Richies badly wounded hand as Santanico sees the puddle of blood on the table. She then transforms into a hideous beast-like vampire and attacks Richie, biting him on the neck. Seth shoots Santanico off of Richie, but Richie dies soon after. Not long after the bouncer and the bartenders rise from the dead in the same beast-like vampire state and them and all the dancers, who are also vampires, lock the door and begin brutally feeding on the bar patrons. Seth, the family and a couple of bar patrons manage to kill almost all the vampires. Seth goes to find his brothers body as the remaining bar patrons realizes the vampire band is still there. As the group goes to attack, they disappear. Seth says his final farewells to Richie but before he can finish, Richie turns into a vampire as well and attacks Seth who manages to get away. They share a moment looking at each other and Seth then decides he must kill Richie and he does. Seth begins to drink heavily as the remaining group starts to hear a swarm of bats surrounding the bar. The group then realizes that the killed bar patrons are turning into vampires as well and must fight them off. While staking the remaining vampires, one of the surviving bar patrons named Sex Machine is biting in the arm but hides it from the others. The survivors regroup and plan on what to do next. It is not long before Sex Machine begins to transform. He then sneaks up and attacks the other surviving bar patron, Frost [Fred Williamson] biting him in the neck. Sex Machine then moves onto Jake, biting him in the arm. Frost, still in human form, confronts Sex Machine and they begin to fight ending when Frost throws Sex Machine through a window, opening the way for the swam of vampire bats to come in and Frost also transforms. Seth and the kids then run and hide in a back room of the bar. Jake bandages his arm and makes a cross out of a bat and a shotgun and makes his way back to the remaining group. They then prepare to make a last stand against the remaining vampires. Before they go into battle, Jacob forces his children to swear they will kill him when he turns into a vampire and the reluctantly do. During the battle, Seth confronts Sex Machine for the final time and is almost killed but he is saved at the last minutes but Kate. The vampire Frost then confronts Jake and Jake kills him with his cross shotgun. Right after he kills Frost, he then too turns into a vampire and attacks his son Scott, biting him in the neck. Scott then kills his father and is swarmed by vampires. He then begs his sister Kate to kill him and eventually she shoots him which results in small blast killing the vampires around him. Now only Seth and Kate remain to fight off the vampires. They are completely out number and it seems all is lost when rays of sunlight start to come through cracks hurting the vampires. They then hear Carlos banging on the door and eventually he breaks through as Seth and Kate run out. The vampires begin exploding and the bar itself explodes as they are running away. Seth and Carlos negotiate a deal for the money and Carlos gives Seth a sports car. Seth tells Kate to go home and he drives off, following Carlos onto El Rey. Then the camera shot zooms out to reveal that the bar is actually the top portion of a very large ancient Aztec ziggurat.

Two fugitive brothers at gunpoint get an ex-minister and his two children to take them accross the border into Mexico. They drive to a Mexican biker bar to rendevous with other crooks. While at the bar, a few unusual things happen.

The Gecko brothers are fugitives, and are on the run after a very interesting bank robbery. They kidnap the Fuller family, and drive to a Mexican bar to meet with other on-the-run criminals. It turns out the crooks in the bar are vampires, and if the Gecko brothers and the Fuller family can survive from dusk until dawn, the "crooks" will let em' go.

Seth Gecko and his younger brother Richard are on the lam after a bloody bank robbery in Texas. They escape across the border into Mexico and will be home-free the next morning, when they pay off the local kingpin. They just have to survive 'from dusk till dawn' at the rendezvous point, which turns out to be a Hell of a strip joint.

This is my favorite Vampire film!!! It even beats Twilight as From Dusk Till Dawn was around a long time before Twilight ever was!!! It's also my favorite George Clooney film. I love the western setting that the film has and i think all the actors and actresses did a great job po...( read more)rtraying Vampires. Quentin Tarantino was excellent in this, quite deranged at times but then when isn't he in any film he does, but still an excellent actor. I especially loved Juliette Lewis as i thought she was really good at playing the sweet and innocent teenager until the time came to blown some Vampire brains out!!! A true classic of a Vampire film and i still need to see the sequels to it, but somehow i doubt they're as good as the first is. I own the DVD and watch it constantly.

  • September 4, 2009
Hah, this movie is way cra-z. Vampire tales are rarely this gritty and explosive, and the cast is just perfect. It is somewhat mindless, but that doesn't detract from your enjoyment of the final product. You won't be bored, that's for sure.

At the beggining this movie looked like it could be something very special. The characters were interesting and dynamic, the plot seemed to be presenting lots of intriguing possibilities, and the performances looked like they were going to be of an extremely high standard. Howeve...( read more)r quite quickly it went from an intriguing movie about two very different sets of people brought together in a tense atmousphere, to one of the worst B-movie horror flicks I've ever seen. It's just fucking stupid. I get the point, but I don't appreciate it.

The star is for the beggining and the half star is for atleast being mildly amusing on occasion after the stupidity begins, as for the rest, it diserves nothing as far as I'm concerned.

Quentin Tarantino & Robert Rodriguez try their hand @ the vampire genre & it's a mixed bag. An offbeat, well-written first half upended by the campy vampire slaughterthon of the second half. I love Clooney's character in this film. He carries that hard swagger throughout and never lets up. Salma Hayek, very hypnotizing. Straight up, no bullshit film.

  • August 17, 2009
Wish I could give it 0 stars. The beginning was amazing; the story of the two brothers was enough of a movie right there. Then it was killed brutally by some stupid vampires, table legs and dick guns.

A fairly compelling crime/road genre picture up until the point where Rodriguez realized he didn't have an ending and decided to turn it into a zombie-vampire funhouse.
