  Entertaining but ultimately dumb action thriller with Travolta trying to be Mr. Cool once again. It works for some scenes but feels forced in others. It's just one of those action films that tries to tell a story set in the real world, but isn't really. Too many plot holes, inconsistencies and unbelievable character decisions make this a work of pulp, that shows little respect for the worth of a human life. That being said, the very bloody shootouts are well filmed and you never get bored, because it all happens rather fast. In the end you're wondering what all the fuzz was about, shrug and move on to entertainment with more content.

  Luc Besson productions are either hit or miss and unfortunately, and surprisingly considering Pierre Morel's Taken and District 13, From Paris with Love is a big fat 'Royale with Cheese' miss. It's action packed as you'd expect but it's not pparticularlyfunny, it's not very well acted and the story isn't at all up to scratch. It's a bit of a mess really and not much fun to watch.

  Wax: Welcome to Paris, baby. "Two agents. One city. No merci." From Paris with Love is a ridiculous,  moronic, gun toting, zero brain having action thriller. There's no originality to be had with this one. From start to finish it's a standard, all action movie; and thank God for that because when they stop long enough to speak is when it gets unwatchable. So I obviously hated the movie, right? Wrong. Come on... it may be stupid, it may be unoriginal, but it's 90 minutes of pure popcorn fun. Not all movies have to change the world. This one certainly didn't, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.  An American embassy worker in Paris gets pulled into a terrorist plot when he is told to pick up a special ops agent named Wax. The two run around Paris getting in shootouts, car chases, and anything else you can think of. Hell for half the movie, Jonathan Rhys Meyers is carrying a vase full of cocaine. It's not an intelligent thriller, but it makes up for it with knowing just how bad it is. Nobody involved here thought they were doing anything more than making a dumb action movie. When a film is aware of just how moronic it is, it almost makes up for it. The film also doesn't overstay its small welcome. When the film actually starts, it ends up running around an hour. The first half hour is just introductory bullshit. I even had fun watching that. There's definitely a certain satisfaction I got from watching Travolta be even crazier than normal. Plus, he has a nice little Royale with Cheese to remind everyone that he has starred in a smart action movie before. I always like a nice little allusion. Not good. I'll be the first to admit that, but if you are willing to throw your brain away for an hour and a half and just bask in the ridiculousness of everything that is this movie; you could potentially have a lot of fun. Actually, I just watched it for the second time, yet it felt like the first. Probably because I forgot the whole movie twenty minutes after watching it, which will probably happen again this time. It's a movie that will always feel like the first time.

  So much action, yet so little to take away from it. It's a very average movie that has over-the-top, loud, and in-your-face action that never stimulates your senses whatsoever. At least John Travolta was somewhat funny. The lead character, James Reece who is played by Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, is the protagonist and his story is a story that we, somewhat, get invested into but it isn't something that we haven't seen from the past. There's an overload of over-the-top action that is so ridiculous but yet nothing stands out as a memorable set-piece. Everything, in the end, was for entertainment sake and did "From Paris With Love" succeed? Somewhat but it could've been much much better. Good thing that, with a movie like this that is blatantly trying to be over-the-top, the screenplay was good. John Travolta was funny for the most part... But did they really have to put in the Royale with cheese? My gosh. Just a gripe for me lol. "From Paris With Love" is entertaining as a whole package but the audience leaves with no substance whatsoever. Its noisy and the action so was sloppily put together that, in the end, never stimulates our action-hunger needs.

  A wannabe special ops field agent is partnered with a specialist to root out a terrorist cell intent on assassinating a peace conference in gay Paris. Very much in the same vein as 80s chalk and cheese buddy cop movies written by the likes of Shane Black, From Paris With Love is similarly misogynistic and gratuitously violent as wise cracking super agent Travolta teaches lily livered liberal Rhys Myers how to become a trigger happy Nazi in order to "get the job done". The result is a cross between Training Day and The Rookie for spies, and as usual the old "terrorism" card is played to excuse the indiscriminate slaughter of everyone they come across, while John does his wacky hitman schtick anyone who has seen Broken Arrow or Swordfish will be familiar with. The direction is decent and the action slickly choreographed but the script is unimaginative and crude and literally everyone involved is a blatant racial stereotype. The non stop action means it passes the time if you don't think too much about it but its sheer moral bankruptcy will make it rather distasteful to those who do.

  This movie is a ripoff of one of my all time favorites Training Day. The director tries so hard to make John Travolta look awesome that his partner isn't even important, but he does succeed in making a guy named Wax pretty cool, even if Travoltas acting as a badass is getting pretty old. The plot was so forgettable with all the fiancee crap and drug lords (like I said, ripoff of Training Day). I will give it credit for intense action scenes and the cinematography and giving a pretty cool twist ending that makes the last 30 minutes pretty damn cool. A okay movie, could've been a lot better.

  Sometimes a strict genre film can be forgiven its clichés. You find the characters interesting, the actors are having a grand time, or the director finds a way to make old seem new. And sometimes a movie just gets sunk to the watery depths of boredom thanks to an overabundance of genre clichés. From Paris with Love is the latter. I had higher hopes for the film coming from the director of 2009's Taken, which defied a ball of clichés to be a fairly kick-ass and efficient action caper. Paris involves the tired setup of the straight-laced guy matched up with the reckless loose canon. John Travolta gets to chew every piece of scenery not nailed down. Travolta unhinged has its pleasures, but if the entire movie is Travolta's theatrical tantrums and some scattered explosions, then forget it. We watch Travolta act up, go overboard, and then eventually be proven right. This formula is repeated ad nauseam. The silly plot involves a Pakistani terrorist strike against the U.S. ambassador at the African summit in Paris (convoluted much?). The twists and double-crosses are easily telegraphed, and most of the action sequences are poorly edited and structured, and the attempts at humor fall deadly flat. From Paris with Love is a stupid action movie for all the wrong reasons. Nate's Grade: C

  John Travolta is in one of his more serious roles, but the story, the action, and the characters are all undeveloped and sloppy. From Paris With Love has it's cool effects scenes, but the fact that the first half of the action scenes are lame excuses to keep an audience interested, is very sad. It is very cheesy at times, and is extremely uneven. However, taking everything into account, it was fun, but you were "just" having fun. The story has like 3 plots, and you never know which one is which. It is all over the place. It's a bit hard to rate, but I was impressed and laughing at the same time. This movie is far too average to call good.

Great action film that never lets up!

  This is not a romantic comedy in which the Eiffel Tower figures picturesquely. No, the title pays homage to James Bond for a semi-wacky, semi-serious spy wheeze in the long line of odd-coupled buddy actioners. It's from the production stable of Luc Besson, who came up the story and doubtless fancies it to follow his <i>Transporter, District 13</i>s and <i>Taxi</i>s as another fella-friendly franchise. The plot is simultaneously simplistic and hard to follow, but almost incidental to the testosterone fumes. Taking down a Chinese drug ring leads on through ethnically essorted crime gangs as secret-agent man Wax connects the dots to a Middle-Eastern mastermind extremist and a suitably crazed climax. Thus we zoom through peppy, culturally appropriate set pieces, from shoot 'em-ups, bazookas, bombs and martial arts tiffs, with bad-guy bodies raining down spiralling Parisian staircases, to a <i>Soupcon</i> of free-running (although John Travolta is too chunky for more than a rooftop-scampering nod to that) and an exciting spot of vehicular mayhem on the Paris Peripherique. The character appeal is in the teaming of Travolta's over-the-top chrome-domed, wisecracking wild and crazy guy with Jonathan Rhys Meyers, who in a reversal from his usual flamboyant turns, is engaging as the strait-laced, methodical guy who plays chess, speaks Mandarin, canoodles with a fashion designer Euro-fiancee (Kasia Smutniak) and somewhat naively doubles being the clueless US Ambassador to France's super efficient personal assistant with a spot of espionage. None of which has prepared him for the blood spattering antics of his new partner-slash-maniacal mentor, although he's a surprisingly good shot for a glorified office boy.

John continues to put forth his best efforts no matter what is going on in his personal life. This is one you will want in HD Blue Ray to watch over and over again. Little did I know it would be so good. 5 Stars

If you want a prime example of absolutely horrible dialog, this is a good one -- not to mention a weak, ridiculous story. <p>And let me ask you this: If you'd just shot your one true love through the head and killed her -- even though you'd discovered she is a terrorist who intends to kill hundreds of people -- how long do you think it would be before you could laugh and smile and joke around, while playing a happy game of chess even, with your covert operations buddy? Oh, and when Travolta pulled out that series of photos, I'm sorry, I had to laugh out loud. Come on, John, you don't need to do stuff like this anymore -- not to mention that you may be getting a wee bit old to play the a**-kicking action guy. Let's get a little bit more selective, buddy.

  <i>From Paris with Love</i> brings the action and the... more action. Congratulations Pierre Morel.<p>Everything in this film is straightforward and there is nothing wrong with that. The bolting pace and brief passing run time under 90 minutes doesn't allow any time to think; yet, there is still enough of a story to top it all off.</p><p>The first 10-15 minutes is the calm before the storm because once the Charlie Wax character shows up the fun begins. The profanity and body count quickly ascend to high levels. The gore and blood factor is not extreme, despite the plethora of violent segments, but this is, if anything, only a minor letdown.</p><p>While the story is built around Jonathan Rhys Meyers, John Travolta is the one that steals the show. His character is a bit outrageous, but that's what makes this film so entertaining. Travolta delivers what his character is meant to be.</p><p>After all the bad guys are dealt with, <i>From Paris with Love</i> is a kick back action adventure. Lean back and enjoy.</p>

  From Paris With Love started off well enough, but ended on a very low note. After the first interesting 30 minutes, the film was hit and miss. John Travolta gives one of his worst performances since Battlefield Earth. To me, it looks like the filmmakers tried to copy every "extreme" Hollywood action film such as Shoot Em' Up and Crank and give it a dose of seriousness and give it a French flavor to it. Where to start with this film? The director looks as if he just made his feature length debut with Paris and looks like he directed music videos, if he did he should go back to doing that, cause he ain't cut out to making action films. The acting is simply terrible. Who ever said that this was the best Travolta flick since Pulp Fiction is a total idiot, saying this film is his best since Pulp is like comparing a Van Gogh painting with a hunk of dog shit. I really wanted to like this film, but it ended being a great disappointment, Luc Besson can't can produce a quality action film, and Paris With Love is the latest testament to my comment. The dialogue and acting are poor and after the film is done, you are left feeling cheated out of wanting to watch an awesome action. Be warned, the critique that appears on the dvd cover saying this is the best Travolta film since Pulp Fiction is very misleading, don't be fooled. A stylish film that delivers on mindless action, From Paris With Love, is an action dud. Though heavy on action, the pathetic story and acting brings it to a whole new low. Theres nothing to love here.
