This action film, directed by Pierre Morel (Taken), concerns young CIA agent James Reece (Jonathan Rhys-Meyers) who has a cushy day job but dreams of an exciting life in the field. When the agency offers him his first big-time assignment, James must team with crazed lone wolf Charlie Wax (John Travolta) to stop a terrorist bombing plot. Although James is initially in way over his head, he soon realizes that he needs to trust Charlie if he wants to live his dream and save his own life, because the bad guys not only want to cause damage to the city, but want James killed. ~ Perry Seibert, Rovi

Critic Reviews from Rotten Tomatoes

"If you like a violent, silly, frenetic style of film you'll find plenty to enjoy here."
‑ Laremy Legel,
"Crushing dull repetition that makes one noisy, violent scene play exactly like the last one."
‑ Peter Travers, Rolling Stone
"The goatee-sporting, shaven-headed Travolta throws himself around with gusto, and the action is bruising and bloody, but to a viewer on this side of La Manche, the film's casually racist attitude to its non-white characters is shocking."
‑ Jason Best, Movie Talk
"It's stupid, it's unoriginal, and it makes very little sense... but that's not all bad."
‑ Mike Edwards, What Culture
"A fun, over the top action movie that doesn't care that it's stupid and over the top."
‑ Michelle Alexandria, Eclipse Magazine
"Itâ(TM)s not enough to allow the film to rise above its guilty-until-proven-innocent conception of justice. Reprehensible, then, but what fun!"
‑ David Jenkins, Time Out
"The bazooka was as subtle and witty as the movie."
‑ A.O. Scott, At the Movies
"...a workable premise that's squandered from the word go..."
‑ David Nusair, Reel Film Reviews
"Travolta stuffs it up, again."
‑ Don Groves,
"Not even the pleasures inherent in watching John Travolta mug it up as a gonzo CIA operative bent on breaking things and killing people... are sufficient recompense for sitting through this by-the-numbers slog from the fevered brain of Luc Besson"
‑ Philip Martin, Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
"Is the movie worth seeing as a travelogue? Only if you are (a) a masochist, (b) a terrorist, or (c) desperate."
‑ Peter Rainer, Christian Science Monitor
"For better or worse, From Paris With Love is an effective stimulant."
‑ Stephen Holden, New York Times
"Suddenly I'm nostalgic for Battlefield Earth."
‑ Dave White,
"Lacking any compelling style, attitude or storytelling."
‑ Nick Schager, Lessons of Darkness
"Morel's underrated eye and knack for making kinetic movement rhythmic and easy to follow elevates Besson's run-of-the-mill, mismatched-buddy thriller into a propulsive, enjoyably Eurotrashy entertainment."
‑ Aaron Hillis, GreenCine
