The best war film about the training and fighting of soldiers in a single conflict, Full Metal Jacket is expertly directed by Stanley Kubrick and offers some of the best war sequences of any film ever. It depicts a graphic image of the brutality US marines face in boot camp, and the horrifying battlefields of Vietnam itself.

This movie has some unforgettable scenes and is quite accurate in many of it's boot camp depictions.

An awesome Stanley Kubrick classic film. I wouldnt say that this is the best Stanley Kubrick. This is my third favourite Kubrick film after A Clockwork Orange an The Shining. The plot is very very good. I love the scenes at the start when they are training in the army. It is pretty funny with Private Pyle always making mistakes and not being able to do some of the activities because he is too fat. The action in this film is alot like the action in Apocalypse Now and Saving Private Ryan. Was well directed By Stanley Kubrick.

A surreal look at the American Govenment and the brainwashing that goes with the military. Kubricks storytelling is precise and as gritty as ever. Kubrick succeeds in every category. Matthew Modine puts forth every unstrained human emotion to the test with finess and determination. The most meorable however has to be Vincent D'Onfrio as the excellently dimwitted Private Leonard Lawrence (aka Private Pile). D'Onfrio sets forth a nerve twitching confrontation with gusto and the viewer generally feels sorry for him. With top notch actors, and a great pace, Full Metal Jacket will reign as one of the greatest Vietnam era inspired movies of all time.

Better taste of Kubric in my humble...
One thing about his flics they are full of lines we all quote or have heard quoted.
A good "snapshot" of an ugly time I guess.

I always loved the first half of this movie. And until now, i had always not cared for the second half in comparison. Well after 20 years and probably a half dozen viewings, i finally appreciate this excellent flick for the complete piece it is. R Lee Ermey and Vicent D'Onofrio OWN!! Just incredible viewing.

Another one of those "it's Kubrick, my expectations are high" type things.

The first half of the movie cracked me up and I wish it continued on that. But the second half was just as powerful.

"I think it has something to do with the duality of man, sir"

    I couldn't agree more.

I thought the film was over when bootcamp ended and at that point I was going to give the film 5 stars but then it spent another hour on some mindless war sequence that bored me out of my mind.

Stanley Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket is separated into different segments. My favorite being the Boot Camp one. This film depicts realistically the horrors the war on Vietnam brought to the troops... Kubrick style. Check it out, it's great!

Stellar script...Kubrick balling as usual with unforgettable characters and shot sequences. A stellar film that needs to be seen several times to be properly enjoyed.

this film features four of my favorite lines:

"You're so ugly you could be a modern art masterpiece!"

"Hell I like you, you can come over to my house and fuck my sister!

"Bullshit! I'll bet you could suck a golf ball through a garden hose!"

"Five foot nine? I didn't know they stacked shit that high!"

The first half of the movie would be a 5 star film. Then it just drags and drags, and then drags some more. Stanley Kubrick you had no idea what pacing was! It loses 2 stars for the second half.

It's awful to watch, it's painful to watch and it is brilliant.

An amazingly powerful war movie detailing the training of new recruits into killing machines. Simply an amazing piece of Kubrick genius.

Not my ideal war movie. Full Metal Jacket took on the psychological approach of war, and it definately showed Kubrick's obvious style. Very good opening, and good ending which brought it back to the opening. R.Lee Ermey was fantastic playing the...trainning captin(w/e u call him). Very very well done, just not my type of film.
