An epic. Ben Kingsley is outstanding in this undoubtedly controversial best picture, it triumphs on subject matter alone. I really liked the cinematography, but the editing I found choppy and irritating - it's hard to keep a narrative that's so involved interesting, and to presen...( read more)t it all in 3 hours or so, but there was so much flashing forward that it made me wonder what happened in between... which actually shows how, even if I didn't like the editing, it was effective.

A true epic, a great film for a great man! Everything in this film was just perfect, the whole film I didn't watch Ben Kingsley performing, it was the true Gandhi on screen! Direction is perfect, the whole story is absolutely great. One of the best films in 1982 (too bad E.T. was...( read more) from 1982 hehe)

What can I say about a movie that chronicles one of the greatest human beings that ever lived. Of course this movie is excellent, and if you haven't seen it, don't come back to this website till you do.

Very, VERY few films have had the distinct ability to move and inspire me to the point where the effect is almost life-altering. "Gandhi" - the unbelievable, first-rate biopic on the historical figure - is truly one of those films, no question whatsoever. An unsurprising sweep fo...( read more)r the 1983 Academy Awards, this is without a doubt one of the last real "epic" motion pictures ever.

Chronicling the rich, unforgettable life of a one Mohandas K. "Mahatma" Gandhi - played to shocking perfection by the wonderful Sir Ben Kingsley - this is a film that I can say really, deeply affected me with its power, its scale, and of course, its timeless message of love and non-violence. As a matter of fact, ever since I first saw the film, and became much more aware of the back story, I can also say that Gandhi is now one of my biggest role models in life. I cannot fully express how much this great man's way of thinking - his words, his struggles, his accomplishments - has affected my own, for I am now a practicing pacifist. I am a firm believer in the value of non-violent protest, and have tried my best to apply that philosophy to most situations in my life. It has worked wonders for me, and has really changed how I view the world in terms of human nature and so forth. Like I said, VERY few films can do something like that to me.

Sweeping and inspiring, Gandhi is a perfectly directed film, in the sense that Attenborough seems to be in complete control, making the film feel mind-blowing and unforgettable when it might not actually be so. What is impressive is Kingsley's performance, since he BECOMES Gandhi...( read more), instead of over-dramatizing him or making up his own person. A wonderful picture indeed.
