Critic Reviews

  • Kenneth Turan, Los Angeles Times

As a reworking of one of the great 1960s TV comedies, you'd think being funny would be its main goal. But you would be wrong. Very, very wrong.

  • Tom Huddlestone, Time Out

Overall this is a limp parade of recycled gags and gadgets: an action movie with no surprises and a comedy with nothing like enough laughs.

  • J. R. Jones, Chicago Reader

I often wondered if the filmmakers weren't trying to fix something that isn't broken.

  • Richard Roeper, Ebert & Roeper

One of the more pleasant surprises of the year.

  • David Edelstein, New York Magazine

Get Smart is likable and very funny -- at least a two-to-one ratio of excellent gags to clunkers -- but it's not, for better or worse, Get Smart.

Surprisingly good for a remake of a tv show. Carrel, hathaway and Johnson all put on a good show. Well worth your time.

A funny movie that revolves around Carrell and his antics. The story is not great nor does it make perfect sense, but it keeps the movie moving and Carrell keeps the jokes coming. Main fault is lack of chemistry between Hathaway and Carrell.

It's exactly what you can expect from it. A funny joke here and there. And a medicore plot. I can't mention anything funny. Cause I can't remember it...

This movie version of the 60s spy comedy show has all the trademarks of the original: funny gadgets, a gawky leading man with a capable and sexy sidekick. Sure, not all the gags work, but Carell's entirely serious performance makes up for a lot. Anna Hathaway makes a strong point… More
