Plot:
Apparently this story is a reimagining of "Ghost in the Shell", rather than a sequel. Actually, its just as easy to see the first series as coming prior to the events in the first film.
Great stuff. Visually superior to the film, with an interesting story arc that spans the "complex" episodes about a mysterious ghost-hacker known as "the laughing man". One or two episodes are a bit weak, but in general it hold together well. One warning though - it's not children's viewing, despite the cutsy tanks in it. Avoid episode 10 if you're of a squeamish nature.
I actually prefer the series over the movies. This and GITS: 2nd Gig are at the top of my all time fav anime list..
From the almost impossible-to-understand-on-1st-showing plots, to the best screen interpretation of how man and 'the net' come together in the future. It's hard to find any flaws in the Stand Alone Complex series' - ok well sometimes those babbling Tachikomas do my nut in but apart from that the rest of the anime world just came 2nd best again
Not being a fan of the original anime movie, I wasn't sure what to expect of the series but it was an amazing show with great action scenes and weapon and mech designs and the episodes were well though out and not too complex so that you didn't understand what was going on but not too dumbed down either. The 26 episodes were all split up into various episodes - when the episode titles come up it was either say 'Stand Alone Episodes' which were one-off episodes and 'Complex Episodes' which followed one single story line in which they battled an ultra-hacker known only as The Laughing Man. Great for fans of sci-fi, amazing for fans of Ghost In The Shell so check it out. The 2nd GIG (seond volume) box set is out now and I'll review it when I get around to watching it :)
A great series, with more emphasis on action and less musing on the nature of the human soul than there is in the original movie.
AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME!!!! This series has you gripped from the word go. Major Kusanagi is one of the coolest characters in Manga. You have some great running plots here, not to mention some wonderful touches, such as the Tachikomas. Well worth a look.
Not a movie but a series. Actually, it is one of the best anime series ever produced. But it is mainly aimed for an adult audience. So you kiddies may not appreciate this piece of art. The story is very solid and very complex. In the animation department, GITS : S.A.C. has some of the best animation for a TV series. Very smooth, the mix of 2D/3D is well done. The music department is worth a mention. The series features some of the best anime soundtracks I've ever heard (next to "Bubblegum Crisis 2040").
Major Motoko Kusanagi, leads Section 9 dealing with normal and sometimes intriguing cases. The word Stand alone complex has an ambiguous meaning .. which is what makes me surprised at its ending..
Incredible sci-fi. It doesn't dwelve into philosophical pondering as much as the Oshii movies, but the stories are very complex and demand you pay attention. And it's oh so worth it.
May not be as polished as the films but once you watch the first episode, you cant stop until you reach the end
Bisexual hot robot chicks, a muscular bodyguard with cybernetic eyes, talking tanks, Salinger, the Laughing Man... not to mention one of the best eps of an anime ever: "Jungle Cruise". First ep I ever saw on Adult Swim that got a No One Under 17 should watch this warning.
It had its moments, but I hated how they changed Motoko from how she was in the film. I really hate her skimpy outfits in this. Bring back the combat suits!
I'm a big fan of this series. The characters are highly interesting and the plots are rather complex. As far as action goes it varies. There are episodes where there is a ton of action and there are some with none at all. If your looking for a futuristic sci-fi anime then this series may be for you.
Part of the seasons for Ghost. 24 excellent stories make up each season. Very good stories, very good animation and fantastic music make this a must have for anime fans.
I need to reserve judgement on this one until I've seen the whole series, I wasn't too fussed at the start but it seems to be getting interesting
Precisely like The Matrix they made a "animatrix" and shifted this out wich does not stand up to the origional movies.
Rarely will you find such an intellectual, though-provoking dive into the future of the human substance.
This is certainly on a par with the first series. No better, no worse. Bring on a third series, and roll on the Solid State movie.
No joke! this is my favorite Ghost in the Shell Series! Stand Alone Complex! did you know that the theme song is Russian? Origa sings the theme song lol! ^^ she's so kool!
Ive only watched the first series of S.A.C and im already loving it. the tachicoma's are just funny, and the whole plot is great. Definetly gna watch every episode, its that great XD
