Plot:
Our favorite American hero has returned in this rerelease of the now cult-classic G.I. Joe movie from 1987. Once again G.I. Joe must protect the world from total obliteration. Cobra, the deadliest of ...( read more

G.I. Joe: The Movie is yet another '80's toy advertisment. Now I was a huge fan of G.I. Joe, but this movie ruined it for me. Cobra Commander was some weird snake man from a civilization in the Himalayas? WTF? That's not Larry Hana said!
Pretty much a rehash of the plot to the Transformers movie with Don Johnson voicing the cocky good guy that becomes a hero. I can't forget Burgess Meredith as Golobulus, a snake man with an attitude.
GI Joe the Movie was so silly it was good. This 1987 answer to Transformers, from the year before, pits GI Joe against Cobra, from another popular cartoon series. But now, Cobra has joined forces with the evil Snake People, and they plan to destroy humanity by turning them into savages using alien spores. "Yo Joe!"
G.I. Joe was like the Army's promotional video for kids. Besides that it made a pretty interesting show that was fun to watch same goes with the movie.
Very awesome cartoon movie, the wrters and the animators did really well with this film adaptation of one f the greatest cartoons of the 1980s, "G.I. Joe". The newer characters like Cobra-La rule!.
I have to give this one 5 stars! I remember watching it as a kid and I still own the ol beat up VHS until I can find the DVD.
G.I. JOE: THE MOVIE (1986)
directed by Don Jurwich
starring the voices of Don Johnson, Corey Burton, Dan Gilvezan«Time and time again, Cobra has been on the threshhold of global domination, only to be thwarted by the Joes. Now the ruthless terrorist organization has a new ally, the Cobra-La race, led by Golobulus. Golobulus wants to steal the Joes's «Broadcast Energy Transmitter» in order to ripen space spores and mutate the people of Earth. When Duke is injured and the rest of the force immobilized, it's up to the new «rawhides» and Slaughter's Marauders to pick up the slack and save the world.» Thats the plot according to IMDB, I used it cause watching the film I felt it was more confusing than that, there is a lot more action than plot in the animated film. The last showdown last nearly thirty minutes of almost non-stop shooting and running. The movie begins with the very patriotic song that reminds me of the parody Trey Parker sang for Team America and its quite funny. For the time it was made G.I. Joe had some pretty cool camera moves for an animated film and some cool ideas in the storyline even if its all confusing. Some cheeesy lines are priceless. Fun if you remember playing with the toys.
Yeah, this is such an 80s cartoon, but as a kid I loved this movie, and it still holds up....decently well as an adult. I put this over the TRANSFORMERS movie that came out around the same time....yeah, that's right....I said it. GI JOE THE MOVIE was better....Deal with it!!!
The lavishly-produced, feature-length version of popular 80s Boys Own franchise. Great animation and engaging story, ruined by the pandering re-dub of a key character's death scene (following complaints about the feature-animated death of a chara in a neighbour franchise involving transforming robots). Also, "Cobra-lalalalala!" is the worst fucking villain chant - EVER! The patriotism and chain-of-command bits tend to be a bit annoying too. Nevertheless worth seeing for those who liked G.I Joe/Action Force as a kid - "THIS, I COMMAND!!"
I used to love G.I. Joe as a kid. Had most of the figures and vehicles. This was a great movie too. Would love to see a live action movie one day. But with the way the world is now we probably never will.
Still a Joe classic. Nothing has captured the horror of the heroes' defeat than like in this movie. I thought all the Joes at the begining fighting Cobra La died! Take that all you weaklings!
Classic GI Joe, what a good cartoon use to be, not this anime cookie cutter digimon crap the kids have now.
Awesome adventure and a good story.
all i know is i have gotten my kids to watch some of the old cartoons that i grew up watching and i love it!
In retrospect, not as cool as it first seemed back in the late-mid-1980s. Still, it's got Burgess Meredith in it, as well as Chris Latta and Frank Welker and a number of other favourites, so the voices are riveting. Still, it's very impressive and epic if you're eleven.
I want to see what all the fuss is about. I'm a girl, born 1980. I played with My Little Ponies. I have no knowledge of G.I. Joe.
I love this movie a lot and was greatly saddened by the fact that my sister destroyed my copy. I will be getting another. I was wondering if anyone knew about the rumor about their being a copy where Duke dies at the end from the wound Serpentor gave him? If you notice when you watch the film, no one ever really responds to Doc's news that Duke survived...almost like it was spliced in later. If anyone knows the truth about this, feel free to let me know, all right?
...and knowing is half the battle LOL!!! GI JOE is the code name for America's highly trained special mission force...Its purpose, to defend freedom against Cobra...A ruthless terrorist organization determined to rule the world!
i LOVED these shows as a kid so for pure nostalgia, you can't go wrong. Objerctively though prob 2 stars since Revenge of Cobra and Arise Serpentor Arise are much better
Cobra LALALALALA! This movie is classic, and I own it. I remember it being the first time I ever saw blood on G.I. Joe. There was not enough Lady Jaye, but it was still great, and the opening sequence with the theme song was great.
Good voice cast, but not much in the way of storyline. I don't think this would have done much better as a live-action film.
This is for fan's of the 8o's tv series only. But if you liked the series as a kid you'll like the movie and see the end of the series basiclly.
I could never get into the G. I. Joe phenomena... it's TOO ridiculous, even for my standards. - The fighting isn't that great either, it shows two sides firing lazers at each other in order to mimic a gun fight. - The theme song is kinda half-assed too.
I admit it..I had a crush on Flynt when I was 11...it is why I watched G.I. Joe...I wanted to be Lady Jay because she was his love interest. I was a strange child in some ways.
Excellect cartoon from the era of the last good Saturday morning cartoons and the catalyst for childhood military fetishes ;)
loved it, looked like they were searching for more plot with the whole cobra-la stuff, first cartoon i ever saw where someone got shot
