First, Zooey Deschanel has an outstanding pair of legs. Out-standing. Second, whenever Paul Dano is in a movie, I can't help but expect that movie to be a version of There Will be Blood, set in some new time period. Third, one of the characters in Gigantic seemed to have no othe...( read more)

Very weird characters. It was a little slow at times. It was cute though.

Offbeat indie romance - this won't appeal to everyone, but I truly enjoyed it. The movie, which centers around a mattress salesman and his quest to adopt a Chinese baby, is slow-moving in parts, but laugh out loud funny in others. John Goodman offers comic relief here, while s...( read more)

It could have been better but God knows it could have been way more annoyingly quirky. Greater character development required but Deschanel and Dano do an admirable job.

The movie starts out terribly and then about 17 minutes in becomes charming for about 45 minutes and then derails but the ending is very good. I was too disappointed to recommend it but it definitely wasn't all bad.
Critic Reviews
The characters are richly layered and well acted. John Goodman is a standout as Deschanel's dad, a rich blowhard with a sweet candy center. full review

This quirky and engaging comedy sports smart dialogue, a surreal premise and a stellar cast. full review
Anyone can go off and just cynically make a bad movie, but to make a picture as inert, incompetent and emotionally fraudulent as Gigantic takes sincere faith that one is, in fact, making something rea... full review
On the basis of Gigantic, Matt Aselton can make a fine and original film. This isn't quite it, but it has moments so good, all you wish for is a second draft. full review
A borderline insufferable trifle that dispenses quirkiness with its every gesture and breath. full review
