I've been meaning to watch this one for a long time and finally got around to it. I liked it a lot more than I thought I would. All the characters are amazing and the first thing that popped in my head halfway through this film is that, "this is pretty much the teen, female version of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest."
About the same concept, but it came out as something all its own. The casting was perfect and I didn't notice how long the movie was until I read the back of the DVD case at the end. I was surprised at how long it was and it was just the right length.
It was a very deep film and I could feel myself really being drawn into it near the end.
I can see why a lot of young women who I relate to in certain aspects place this in the category as one of their favorite films. Amazing movie, and what I loved most about it is that it is technically a "chick flick" (a category that I despise...) but at the same time it is not your average chick flick. ;]
Despite the fact of not being a fan for Winona... i have never found the right time to watch trhis movie until now.
I think that now I know the exact meaning for Border-line person which has nothing to do for the meaning that I knew instead.
Loved the character played by Angelina who is superb! Fabulous acting and make up!
"Razors pain you, rivers are damp, acid stains you, drugs cause cramps, gun aren't lawful, nooses give, gas smells awful, you might as well live" - and while you do, watch this movie. It's the most 'the sex' thing ever.
An excellent film, that would have sucked if it hadn't been for Angelina Jolie's Oscar winning preformance as Lisa. It's hard to believe that Angie had once been an actress, before becoming a bona-fide celebrity.
How can I start reviewing this ingelligent, psychological, incredible James Mangold's
artistic masterpiece?
The cast is perfect, Winona Ryder plays a superb role along with Angelina Jolie...
Believe me when I tell you...Lisa's role its Angelina Jolie's best performance in her career...not wonder why she won an Academy Award.
About the score....
its agresive, piercing, beautiful and well adapted in the movie's highest scenes....
Downtown song's spectacular!
The story its dangerous, creepy, depressing, and i can type thousands of thousands of adjectives and i would be just scratching the surface!
"I know what it's like to want to die. How it hurts to smile. How you try to fit in but you can't. How you hurt yourself on the outside to try to kill the thing on the inside."
- Winona Ryder
It's a simple quote but it has a lot of meaning, specially in some of teenagers life, even though this movie is not about acceptance its about find yourself and you can feel it throguht the whole movie.
The actings are unbelivable, you play the movie and you don't feel like you're watching a movie, you feel like living inside this mental hospital....
THIS IS A HUGE CINEMATIC SUCCESS!
I still wonder why this movie didnt even were Best Movie nominated, its a hundred porcent better than American Beauty, and I am an American Beauty fan.
this is the best fuking movie ever!ma favorite character is LISA i mean o ma god she is a goon even tho she is crazi...she takes nothin from nobody and she holds her own i love her
wow relly good. in a way it kind of reminded me of the book cut, but see she didnt cut herself, so idk it was jus goot, jolie, does rlly good bitchy charcters lol. i hated her in this lol
one of my favorite movies , so cleverly done . the subject of mental illness have never really been adressed in many films so this is a moving and unique movie .
Susanna is rushed to the hospital. Afterwards she discusses this with a psychiatrist. She had been having some delusions. She had also been having an affair with the husband of her parents' friend. The doctor suggests that combining a bottle of aspirin and a bottle of vodka was a suicide attempt. This she denies. He recommends a short period of rest at Claymoore. Claymoore is a private mental hospital full of noisy, crazy people. Georgina is a pathological liar. Polly has been badly scarred by fire. Daisy won't eat in the presence of other people. Lisa is a sociopath, the biggest exasperation for the staff - like Nurse Valerie - and the biggest influence on the other girls in the hospital.
Lisa has a history of escapes, so gaining access to personal medical files is not a problem... Susanna's boyfriend Toby is concerned that she seems too comfortable living with her institutionalized friends.
this movie is depressing, but you can't lower the rating because of that . it's it's genre.. and being in a mental hospital would be depressing it's good
"I know what it's like to want to die. How it hurts to smile. How you try to fit in but you can't. How you hurt yourself on the outside to try to kill the thing on the inside."
First things first: all those people that brag about slitting their wrists? Shut the fuck up. Please.
Ok, so Anglina Jolie played the character Lisa. A sociopath, crazy mofo with balls made of steel. Although her character was creepy and disturbing, Angelina Jolie played her role so well that it was actually entertaining to watch a whacko do crazy shit like driving a girl to suicide by "pressing the right buttons".
The main character of this film was... interesting... to say the least... Susanna a girl with a borderline disorder. I still don't know what that is.
The plot was excellent, and the ending was very satisfying. I think I'll go read the book now. XD
Stuck inside of Claymoore, we have an all-female cast of characters that range from the ultra-bizarre to the downright surreal. We have Borderline Personality Suzanne, Sociopath Lisa (Angelina Jolie), Compulsive Liar Georgina (Clea DuVall), Chicken-Fetishist Daisy (Brittany Murphy), and half-burned Polly (Elizabeth Moss). Add to this bit roles by Whoopi Goldberg as a much more fun Nurse Ratchett and Vanessa Redgrave as a psychiatrist rumored to have same-sex tendencies, and you have the makings of a great comedy with mild touches of seriousness. Ryder underplays nicely without becoming too stiff; Jolie provides the energy and a few funny moments.
The more and more women try to make or be involved in films that should empower, they just end up looking more like cry babies. Boo-hoo, I'm hot, but I'm complicated. This shit movie started the whole Jolie fascination making everybody think she was a good actress. The only part I liked about it was I related with the chicken under the bed thing and wondered why everyone found that gross.
It's called Girl, Interrupted, but I assure you there is huge boundary between this movie and chick flicks. This is a movie that guys can watch without trying not to vomit. The actings were BRILLIANT. This is a kind of movie which can make you forget who the stars played in the movie. You see, Angelina Jolie, I didn't see an image of Pitt's sweetheart here. What I get is, the guys behind the screen is struggling to make this movie is not about the star powers the actors got, but what really happened in the story. But still, we can't be not impressed by Jolie, can we? She outshined the others, even Ryder who also gave a performance of her life. Murphy? I accidentaly thought that this was only a reprise from her role in Douglas' Don't Say a Word. Some people say that this was a deja vu from One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, and some said that Cuckoo's Nest is better than this. Then with a probably best ensemble cast I've ever seen in my whole life, and script which I think the smartest person would think it's smart, if this still worse than Cuckoo's Nest, then it must be a DAMN MASTERPIECE.
This movie scared me and yet I liked it. Both Ryder and Jolie were such strong characters in this. I loved the plot and all the other characters as well. Definitely something to see.
Angelina Jolie completely steals the show and there was nothing Winona could have done about that. Yes, an exaggerated version of a quite simple book but it definitely tells a story, a story about the people that somehow get lost and simply tries to get in the path again.
The power of friendship and the closeness to the people you trust is the main strength of this good movie. Reminded me of One Flew Over the Cucko's Nest BTW.
