full of in your face moral fibre which really bugs me. i already know what's wrong and right. don't need some movie to rub morals in my face. i aint dumb. on the other hand denzel put in a really good performance as the all talk man of the 54th who turned out to be the most scared of them all in the end. intense acting from him. just a shame he wasn't in a better made film. this was a bit soppy

As someone in the recent reviews for this movie said, I am also suprised Denzel Washington didnt get an Oscar for this role! Oh my, the whipping scene. That whole scene to me was really powerful. The music is in perfect with it. The music hits its climax right as the tear falls down.
Also, the part where Morgan Freeman claps during their little... I dont even know what to call it... but their thing before the go to fight the Fort... thats great XD
This was a great movie. Although, the end made me cry. I'm a sucker ._.

My g-g-grandfather served at the time of this war and was one of the six companies which marched along to take Ft. Wagner. The Civil War has always been fascinating, but I truly enjoyed getting to see the Massachussetts 54, the very first black regiment that made it possible for other African-Americans to join the military.

This movie absolutely made my heart melt. Not only was it very entertaining but also informative. I really learned a lot while my heart swelled inside of me. It is not just a war movie, its a wonderful story of the growth of a man who "gave his life for a race". Colonel Robert Gould Shaw is now one my heroes.

I love how you see Shaw grow as a person. At first, he is unable to connect with his black soldiers. He pushes his regiment to its greatest because he knows the horrors of war and the importance of discipline. He also knows that the success of the regiment will change the way Americans view African-Americans. Near the end of the movie , Shaw finally gains respect for his soldiers, earning their respect in return.

It amazes me that such a great, moving film whose main characters are such big names as Denzel Washington, Morgan Feeman and Matthew Broderick can be so under-rated and unknown!
This movie is able to give you a connectiong with the characters that is very refreshing.

Even though the ending is terribly sad, I could watch this movie a hundred times!
The power of Glory will stay with me forever.

I haven't seen a great deal of war movies, so this may not be saying much, but I think Glory is the greatest war movie ever made. It moved me.

This is another strong film based on events of the Civil War, but this time the event is not one of such a huge prominence or nearly as epic. It's more focused as it stays on a regiment of African-American soldiers created to show both the African-Americans' resolve and the abolitionists' resolve. Matthew Broderick turns in easily his best performance ever as the white commander and Denzel Washington is his usual fiery self as the soldier with a chip on his soldier. To balance that out is Carey Elwes as another commander and an even stronger felt presence Morgan Freeman who becomes a sergeant in the ranks over the rest of the troops we focus on. It understated like Gettysburg, and equally as moving.

I was forced to watch this movie in school, but I'll review it because I haven't done many reviews lately. First off, this was NOT my genre. I hate this kind of 'over-coming racism, teams growing together' type movie. The acting at times was terrible! Just terrible! Why do people say the ending is sad? It's not. I slept through the entire thing practically, and when it was trying to be all action-like and upbeat, it truely wasn't. I understand its an older movie, and the effects were not as great as they are now, but the scene at night with them fighting, IS TERRIBLE. For me, watching this movie was a punishment practically. If you enjoy this type of epic war movie, then sure, give it a shot.

Soooooo sad. We watched it in my 11th grade American History class and I was embarrassed because the lights turned back on and I was still wiping my cheeks dry.

I really enjoyed watching it. I think Matthew Broderick did a great job playing the role of Colonel Shaw. The movie really spoke to me about the civil war. I would watch it over and over.

This is one of those movies that I enjoy watching over and over and over again. I'm not sure if it's the fine performances from the likes of Denzel Washington & Morgan Freeman that keep drawing me back, or it's the allure of the history and the knowledge that these events actually took place.

I'm still not convinced that Matthew Broderick was the right choice for the role he played. He does an adequate job but, at times, seems a little overmatched. Even so, the result is a film worth owning and watching and sharing over and over and over again.

Showcases great performances surprisiingly by Matthew Broderick. For an actor whose previous credits included Ferris Bueller, he is a very gifted actor.

Finally a Civil War movie. Edward Zwick directs this vision based on the ltters of Col Robert Shaw who led an all black regiment into war against the confederates. A tear jerker no doubt, but don't let that stop you.

"Glory' touches upon elements of the Civil war described by Abraham Lincoln in the Gettysburg Address. The story of the 54th Massachusetts Regiment is part of the new birth of Freedom which the war was about. One of the best films about the Civil War ever made.

Glory is by and far one of the most moving films I have seen in my entire life. The attraction and bond you feel with all the characters is vividly brought to a halt at the ending battle. Although many movies establish a bond between character and viewer, Glory went astray of the main path and killed off all of the main characters. Glory's only flaw was the similarity between Denzel Washington's character and many of the other men in the 54th. This results in difficulty in discerning names and faces. However, the bloodshed in the ending scene made for an excellent and tear-jerking ending.

Beautiful dramatic movie covering the Civil American War at Antietam, backed up by great acting from Washington and Freeman.
Realistic, mesmerizingly powerful and intense, the film is one of the few that stayed loyal to the history books.
James Horner's theme says it all.

Beautiful civil-war film that sweeps you along until it's heart-pounding climax. Only trouble spot is the miscasting of Broderick as Shaw. Still, one of the better war films I've seen.
