Masat? Ibu, Minoru Watanabe, Misato Tanaka

This second film in the unofficial "Godzilla Millennium" series (which followed its return to features in Godzilla 2000) occasionally suffers from dodgy special effects, but the giant lizard pu...( read more  read more... )ts on enough of a show to please his longtime fans. The premise involves a special anti-Godzilla team's efforts to rid Japan of the atomic menace by means of Dimension Tide, a satellite device that would create an artificial black hole in which to trap the monster. A failed attempt, however, mutates a common dragonfly into a horde of giant prehistoric bugs that evolve into the colossal Megaguirus; the pair naturally face off in a city-wrecking battle while the team works against the clock to repair Dimension Tide and hold Godzilla captive forever. Though his special effects team occasionally lets him down with some shoddy creations (especially the pre-Megaguirus dragonfly swarm), director Maasaki Tezuka (who has since helmed the majority of subsequent Godzilla films) delivers a fun and action-packed feature with an exciting final showdown that should please G-fans. Columbia-Tri-Star's DVD is widescreen and offers a welcome Japanese language track (with English subtitles) for those opposed to dubbing as well as Dolby Digital 5.1 sound. A brace of trailers for other Sony-related sci-fi titles is also included. --Paul Gaita

Another fun entry in the Godzilla series. Megaguirus, despite being a flawed monster in terms of SFX, is still pretty cool and very nasty. Loved the bit with the dragonflies and Godzilla is great as always.

Big points off for the scene when you see the strings when monsters fly.Would've been at least 4 stars. It's Japan w/ all that technology-why can't they hide the strings?!!?

    No thankyou - Not interested.

good, but not as good as I'd have hoped.

Quite possibly the first Godzilla film I've seen in its entirety (aside from the American version that everyone hates), and what can I say?

It was on cable, had bad effects and dubbing, the wife and I were fairly amused by it.

A good call for rental or cable.

enjoyable if not well executed. some really bad instances of herky jerky slo-mo and obvious CGI. nonetheless it is godzilla and it is very awesome in parts if you can look past a bit of sloppy effects work.

Actually one of the best Godzilla movies I've seen! :) The special effects that the synopsis dubs as 'dodgy' weren't nearly as bad as the clearly visible strings hoisting Megaguirus aloft. But there are more than enough good effects in the movie to make up for the bad ones.
...( read more)But the production teams are usually good about (at least attempting to) covering up plot holes, but this one had a big one. The first Dimension Tide opened up a wormhole, but the second and third ones did not.
Also a young boy can easily slip through the woods and onto a high-security research facility unchallenged by any type of barrier? Hmmm...
Anyway, it was a great movie and lots of fun! :)

THis was my personal favorite of the last Godzilla series. I also felt it had the strongest script overall; heads and tails over any other entry in the series
