A serious dose of gruesome medieval Japanese warrior action with more beheadings than you can shake a samurai sword at. At times the action may cause confusion which is the point as warriors try and figure out who or what is ambushing. There's also a real sense of style in filmm...( read more)aking here. It looks beautiful with some mind blowing cinematography mixed with CG effects in the way they should be. Mythology, demonology and Tadanobu Asano add to the mystique.

Highly enjoyable film from Japan's Sogo Ishi. It's not his best film, and it's nowhere near as frenetic as say ELECTRIC DRAGON 80,000 V, but it's not supposed to be. The packaging and marketing of the film makes it seem like it's an action-packed epic akin to Ryuhei Kitamura's AZ...( read more)UMI films. While it does have some action/fighting sequences and some violence and bloodshed, that's not the driving force of the film - it's more about spiritualism and duality. So, if you go into this expecting wall to wall action you'll definitely be disappointed. The cinematography, sets, and locations are fantastic, and Tadanobu Asano's performance is excellent as usual. Veteran actor Daisuke Ryu's performance is also outstanding. His acting career stretches back to Akira Kurosawa's 1980 film KAGEMUSHA. On another note, if you're looking for a film that deals with spiritualism and duality but actually does have a lot of well-choregraphed action sequences, you should check out Kitamura's ARAGAMI.

terrible fights with really quick cuts that don't let you see any action whatsoever despite gallons and gallons of blood. Confusing plot and stupid ending. It was an ordeal to watch to the end.

I could not take my eyes off of Tadanobu Asano. Wonderful movie all around. Based on historical fact.

I enjoyed this. Not Sogo Ishii's best movie. But a decent one. Tadanobu Asano and Masatoshi Nagase are great in it. And the storyline is good. Overall a decent movie.
