With a cast that includes Robert Duvall, Angelina Jolie, Delroy Lindo, Cage, and Ribisi, it would be easy to say this story wastes all their talents--which it does, but that's not the point. This is a Jerry Bruckheimer film. A good story and complex characters would only get in the way of the action scenes and slow the movie down. No, Gone in 60 Seconds (based on the cult 1974 film of the same name) is not about the stars as much as it's about cars. Fast cars. Rare cars. Wrecked cars. All cars. Too bad director Dominic Sena (Kalifornia) doesn't come across as more of a gearhead; he seems less interested in fast cars than fast cuts. But is this movie fun? Absolutely, and it's fun because it's so stupid. With pointless car chases and hackneyed dialogue in one of the most predictable plots of the year, Gone in 60 Seconds is a comic film that's not quite a parody of itself, but darn close. --Andy Spletzer

As usual, I have to start my review of any Nick Cage movie by reiterating how much I dislike him as an actor. He simply plays the same exact person in every role I've seen him in, and that person is Nick Cage. I can't even tell if he's a good actor or not, because he never attemp...( read more)ts to act.

Anyway, I'll try to focus on the actual movie now. I actually liked it for what it was, and the car chases near the end of the movie were pretty exciting. Most of the actors seemed to be hamming it up and enjoying their extremely one-dimensional characters, so I won't be harsh on that aspect of the film. Angelina Jolie was absolutely wasted, though. How did they manage to make her look so unattractive? The phrase "crack whore" came to my mind several times during her scenes.

In short, the story is just there to serve as an excuse to see the pretty cars, Nick Cage doesn't exert himself by any means, and I was mildly entertained.

An ex-car thief is forced out of retirement to help his brother steal 50 cars to order in one night. Brilliant cars and chases. Full of adrenalin. Great cast and plot. Nicolas Cage is cool.

Angelina Jolie's hair was gross but otherwise a good movie.

    "Ice Cold, Hot Wired."

Car theft in Long Beach went down 47% when Randall "Memphis" Raines walked away from the life. He gets dragged back into it by assuming the job his brother Kip screwed up for stolen-car broker Raymond Calitri: steal 50 exotic cars and have them on...( read more) a container ship by 8 AM Friday morning, and he got this news on a Monday. With Calitri threatening to kill him and Kip, and the police GRAB unit breathing down his neck, Memphis reassembles his old crew and attempts to pull off the logistically impossible.

Another Hollywood "Blockbuster for Dummies" movie. Minimal plot, laughable dialogue, lots of eye candy. Why bother thinking up a plot when you can just do a remake? Looking at still images you might think this was a good movie. It makes for a good billboard / trailer / slurpee cup but not an entertaining experience. The cars are gorgeous. Fast forward through the non-action parts of this movie; you won't be missing anything. Then go watch The Italian Job with Michael Caine for a truly excellent car chase action movie.

It's sleek, stylish, well thought out and has a good idea but this remake of the 1974 original is lackluster and boring at sometimes . Even the car chases are drawn out and dull, they don't get your adrenaline pumping all it does is just give you something flashy and c...( read more)ool to look at. But what it could have been was lost under the poor direction of Dominic Sena, the terrible script and acting that fluctuates from average to poor. Gone In Sixty Seconds will not engage you as much as you want and it certainly won't give you the action packed thrill ride you would expect. But "Gone in Sixty Seconds" is enjoyable in some ways and painful in others.

This Nicolas Cage, Jerry Bruckhiemer vehicle is an up beat film with a cool and vibrant cinematography style and gorgeous cars. But that's pretty much all it's got, this film tries so very very hard to be plausible and smart entertainment. But alas it is not. It has a brain but not a big enough one to support it's length or it's theme but I will give it credit it is smart enough to keep you interested but it won't win you over completely. All in all "Gone in Sixty Seconds" is highly charged and is suppose to come out fast and never stop, but instead it comes out slow and never speeds up.

Nicolas Cage is bland and not so tough as the smart and resourceful car thief Randall "Memphis" Raines but he does do well for the most part and that is enough to keep you satisfied with him as your anti-hero. But it is not enough for you to total believe him in the role. Angelina Jolie is a real annoyance and a complete and utter eyesore in this as the "sexy", car loving love interest to Nick Cage. Jolie is grungy and unappealing and annoying that you just want her to die before the film is even over. Robert Duvall is not as good as he use to be but he holds up quite well. As for the rest of the cast.. Well I'm going to leave that up for you to decide, but for the most part they do alright and hold up nicely under a poorly construed car theft caper.

But for the most part "Gone in Sixty Seconds" is a very forgettable chase thriller the only thing you'll really remember from it are the cars and a few slick action sequences but that's about it. It's go no real, true greatness in it but ti will entertain you and that is saying something but if your looking for a hot bloody car thriller I recommend you try out "The Fast and the Furious" for your fix. Because sadly this won't do it for you. All in all "Gone Sixty Seconds" is passing entertainment.
