"Frankly, my dear, i don't give a damn". A memorable movie with memorable actors. Scarlet got what she deserved!

This is just my favourite movie ever. U can never see this one to many times.
It is through this movie I became a bit obsessed with Vivien Leigh. Her effort into this movie is just amazing. She is so fitted to the role as Scarlett O'Hara. <3 -

Probably the longest running film in film history. Vivien Leighs performance as Scarlett O Hara is in my opinion the best female performance of all time. Clark Gable was also fantastic in this masterpiece. When you see his face, hair, moustache and voice he is a bit like Vito Corleone from the Godfather. One of the most famous films ever made. It is pretty cool that a film is still a classic masterpiece after it was made like 70 years ago. But the first 2 and half hours was very exciting that was very enjoyable. I really felt for Scarlett because she loved this man who denies loving her back when he reveals later in the film that he really does love her, after he married one of her best friends. So Scarlett ended up with a nobody who just fancied her because she is beautiful. So clever how Victor Fleming created such a masterpiece just before (or at the very start) of WWII. -
The grandest movie of all time. A true classic which I can relate to. "Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn!"

The greatest Civil War epic ever told, Gone with the Wind tells the classic story of a family during the war between the States, in this 1930s masterpiece. Long, plodding storry represents the way that movies were done back then, because lots of action just would have been difficult. Made for a generation before the Baby Boomers even, but clearly an American idon. The actors are great. The casting of a black lady as a maid with moxy was shocking at the time. This was just gold. Every film famn must sit through it once., or twice.

Pretty cool film. Clark Gable is a pimp and it's got some cool stuff in it. Deserves its status as a classic but not amazing or anything.
-
After I had watched the first disk I thought it was a little long. I forced myself to sit through it though because I had really enjoyed the book. I loved the dresses.
-
It's a classic. And Clark Gable makes me happy. Scarlett O'hara makes me speecless, what with her haughtiness & proud attitude. Great Movie!!

wow. what an absolutely stunning masterpiece of a film. brilliantly deep character study steeped in rich historical fiction, surrounded by captivating sets and brought more fully to life by outstanding acting. not only was the cinematography an enhancement to the story and characters, but its color depth made it about 30 years ahead of its time. language and subject matter also further pushed the time boundaries. some of the best cinematic storytelling ever.
-
pretty good. the 1st half of hte movie was extremely boring because of all the war scenes. but the second half was great. it was horrible though how bonnie died the same way scarletts father did. i didnt know that he would just leave her for good at the end.

An great epic film. It's just grand and takes you through a bit of the American history. A nice watch.

This film is my #1 choice for greatest movie of the 20th Century, its such a tremendous story and so beautifully told. This movie set the bar so high that very few films ever reached that level again. Certainly nothing in the last 30 years has ever come close. Its exceptionally well made, I had no idea how well made it was until I saw the Documentaries on the extras discs. Alot of trick photography was used, but it was done so well that you'd really have to examine the footage closely to notice it. Some things added to the fore- and Backgrounds look seemless, I actually believed that those things were real. I never realized the level of creativity and ingenuity that went into films like this, its absolutely amazing.
They went through so much over the 3 years it took them to get everything together and then film it. They were working so hard to get everything right, they put so much money into it even though they didn't have to with certain things and they did it anyways. Ann Rutherford recalled getting fitted for her costumes, and she noticed all the detail that went into things that the audience is never going to see. She said "Mr. Selznick, you really shouldn't bother with the little things that the audience won't even know is there" and he told her "they won't know its there, but you will and thats all that matters". Who thinks like that nowadays? No one, they are all too money conscious, but even if they weren't its not like anyone is writing anything of this calibur today anyways
Vivien Leigh was born to play Scarlett O'hara, she was absolutely perfect for the role. She was able to be Bratty, scheming, selfish, proud, passionate, strong willed and determined, She was everything that made Scarlett so compelling. She made you hate Scarlett when she was being a bitch, but she also brought out the redeeming qualities of the woman, Which helped the audience to sympathize with her. Leigh was brilliant and beautiful, its hard to imagine Scarlett being played by anyone else, even someone as equally beautiful as Paulette Goddard (who was just barely inched out by Leigh for the role). Its hard to believe that certain radio pundits of the time tried to incite a boycott on this movie because Vivien was british. Thankfully no one listened to the crackpots, otherwise this magnificent film would have probably been tossed into the vault to gather dust, never to be seen again.
Clark Gable was the only one people could see as Rhett Butler, and the people made a good choice. Gable was Gable, and thats how people imagined Rhett to be, there could be no subsitutes. Incidentally Gable was greatly worried that his performance would ruin the film, that fans would stand up and say "Thats how he thinks Rhett would be like!? What a Jerk!". He proved himself wrong, even though he still wasn't satisfied with his portrayal.
Olivia De Havilland as Melanie was ,again, perfect. I guess alot of great actresses could have pulled that role off, but could they beat Olivia's performance? thats something we'll never know. personally I don't think so. Melanie was a really important character to the story, she was the glue that held everyone together. Olivia nailed that part, she was just so right for it.
Leslie Howard as Ashley Wilkes was again the only person they had in mind for it, even though he was too old to play Ashley, and he had no interest in the part in the first place. David Selznick just couldn't see anyone else as Ashley, and did everything he could to get Les on board. They did a good make-up job on him, he looks alot younger than he actually was.
Hattie McDaniel and Butterfly McQueen were both very good, Hattie was so good she won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress over Olivia De Havilland! Butterfly was excellent in her role, she really took it seriously, and she took a stand when it came to things she didn't want to do, like eating Watermelon or being slapped. Many Black actresses of the time would have just done what they were told, even if they didn't agree with it, she stood up and said No and they listened to her.
Some may not like the film because its not action packed, there isn't any gratuitous sex or nudity. Its a very dramatic film, which will also put off alot of the hipsters who think drama is not cool. Its 4 hours long which unless it has alot the stuff I just said it doesn't have, will be too long for alot of folks. Its a brilliant film that will stand for all time, even if the youngsters don't appreciate it, its still the Top grossing movie of all time (adjusted for Inflation). -
Fleetingly brilliant, all together entertaining yet ever so slightly over-rated, it's easy to see why this film has lasted the test of time and is adhered as the pinnacle of a golden age of film making in Hollywood. Leigh and Gable fizzle whenever they're on screen together and at a staggering 222 minutes you never once feel that the film has gone on too long. Damn good.

Scarlet was a hardcore feminist. Her strength has always been inspiring to me both as a young girl and as an adult.

I don't watch many old movies, but I thank God that I didn't miss this one. A true CLASSIC. And I totally agree with whoever said this quote for the first time, that Hollywood is going worse day by day. That's why the word classic is identified to old movies, because of what? They are timeless, and movies which were made nowadays are totally FORGETTABLE. Must I say much about this movie? This is probably one of few things that we worth spending 4 hours for. I didn't felt even one second to get bored, even the dialogs were made maybe in the year when my grandma was born. Vivian Leigh gave a peformance that we can hardly find these days, a true actress. Her chemistry with Butler was no doubt the best chemistry ever seen in Hollywood history. The quotes are timeless, I don't think this movie's charisma will fade until the next fifty years.
Scarlett: Rhett! Rhett, where are you going?
Rhett Butler: I'm going back to Charleston, back where I belong.
Scarlett: Please, please take me with you!
Rhett Butler: No, I'm through with everything here. I want peace. I want to see if somewhere there isn't something left in life of charm and grace. Do you know what I'm talking about?
Scarlett: No! I only know that I love you.
Rhett Butler: That's your misfortune.
[Rhett turns to walk down the stairs]
Scarlett: Oh, Rhett!
[Scarlett watches Rhett walk to the door]
Scarlett: Rhett!
[runs down the stairs after Rhett]
Scarlett: Rhett, Rhett!
[catches him as he's walking out the front door]
Scarlett: Rhett... if you go, where shall I go, what shall I do?
Rhett Butler: Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn.
[Rhett walks off into the fog]

I admit, I didn't really want to see this movie at first because of how old it is. But this movie really suprised me! Sure, the effects and technology does not - obviously - stand up to today's standands, but the plot was fun and interesting. It's great to sit down and relax with an old movie every once and a while.

Loved by millions, disliked by me. Mostly, I just didn't care about Scarlet's survival, and everybody else seemed like a saint in comparison, even Butler. Not to forget the glorification of pre-Civil War society in the South. Otherwise, the music, the sets, and the costumes are wonderful.

It's perhaps the earliest example of a chick flick and it takes 3 weeks to sit all the way through, but even after all of that...it's still maybe the greatest film ever made. Adjusted for inflation it's without a doubt the most successful, though it hasn't aged as well as countless others that have come afterwards. People will still call this one a classic 50 years from now.

By some it is called an epic to end all epics. By some it is called over long and boring. By still others it is called the greatest thing to ever happen to film. Whatever your verdict , no one can deny the beauty and power this Academy Award winning film still wheedles in its ever advancing age. It is hard to imagine modern film without placing Gone.. in the top ten of all time. The sheer cast size, star power, lilting score, haunting images, Technicolor magic, themes and lines all have been used by directors since then in one form or another. Perhaps the most pronounced and best produced epic by sometime Hollywood Maverick David O. Selznick not only holds up but continues to gain fans world wide.

I thought that it was a little bit too long for the kinda slow plot. But it still portrayed the backdrop of the Civil War very nicely. Another one of the things that irrked me was that it had a wierd ending, I mean, not exactly a sad ending or a happy ending(the latter I would have definantly preferred). The actors are first-rate! The acting part couldn't have been done better. Vivien Leigh is just soooo beautiful! Clark Gable is soooo handsome! Olivia de Havilland is soooo sweet! Leslie Howard is soooo a gentleman! I my opinion, this show has the best well-suited cast that I have ever seen.

For my young mind back a couple of years ago it was too much boring mixed in with not enough exciting..but who knows...my taste might have changed.

A lot of great movies came out of the '30s but this one seems seriously overrated to me. The over-acting is way too much for me and none of the emotion feels genuine to me.
