This 1997 picture excells at character and drama in this story of a brilliant math student at MIT and his mentors. Matt Damon, Ben Affleck and Robin Williams are part of a good cast, and the story is solid. Damon plays the spurprise prodigy, who was a janitor who solves a nearly impossible math problem. The later flick, A Beautiful Mind is similar, but this is clearly not a case of copycating. This story's math wizard isn't nuts, will not like the professor in the other flick.

it had treated the idea of being a genius very easy and didn`t use its potentials as it could.the movie is a real good one but it could be very very better in the hands of a better director.
Excellent film. Not surprised that Robin Williams won an Oscar for his performance. Matt Damon, Ben Affleck and Minnie Driver were all Oscar worthy performances aswell. Really well written by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck.
We can see from an early stage that Ben affleck isn't such a bad director. This movie combines two good friends who put out a really good and interesting script on the line. The story might not be new or anything spectacular but it's very touching and you really enjoy watching the characters on screen. There is a particular scene where Ben is telling Damon about how he would love to one day see him disappear when they go pick him up for work because he is so much better than that. A very touching moment and well executed.
Robin Williams also plays one of his best characters, the movie is quite emotional and hits in if you are week when it comes to movie. Very impressive and highly recommended.

amazing movie. damon and affleck's screenplay is as poignant and emotional as that of the most seasoned writer. driving character study that finds resonance with just about any audience. terrific acting and a well-earned Oscar indeed for Williams. a thoroughly solid film.
