I found this movie quite entertaining, the story was interesting and kept me interested to the end.
Still, the acting wasn't the best I've seen (especially Charles Dutton felt extremely stiff) and I wished the character development would have been better.
A good try for a horror movie, but it tries too much to be like all others.

Actually was quite disappointed by this, I thought Halle Berry was wrong to play this role, but otherwise it would've been a good storyline.

Not the worst movie I've seen, but I've seen worse. Halle Berry does a decent job, but toward the middle, it just gets a little boring. Not really a good movie at all.

A good movie but make sure that you keep the volume button nearby to adjust the sound when necessary.

Pretty good film. Halle acted so well and Robert Downey Jr did a great job too. He seems casual and relaxed as usual haha. Great story too!

I'm a great admirer of Mathieu Kassovitz, but this American incursion of this French actor/director just didn't deliver.

It was okay, but not that scary.... Kind of yucky with all the blood though but that what a thriller/splatter needs, isn't it?

To be quite honest, I really liked this film. Never thought Halle Berry could do horror before. But she definitely convinced me in this one. Loved the special effects and horrifyingly gruesome visuals, especially the scenes where the ghost of the murdered girl appears. Aside from that, the twist near the end was just great. though, I didn't get a clear resolution to the story with the last scene of the movie. Is the director trying to tell us that their will be sequel?

Halle Berry is one of the worst actresses of Hollywood's story. She never changes that "Eh, I'm not understanding" face, has no expression at all. She sucks bad.

An interesting thriller. It has you guessing right up till the end. The atmospheric scenes were creepy to the max plus Halle Berry's performance was excellent.

    GOTHIKA (2003)
    directed by Mathieu Kassovitz
starring Halle Berry, Penelope Cruz, Robert Downey Jr.

With a title like Gothika we could only expect something kinda spooky but it was a lie, Gothika was like any other scary movies that came out in the last few years, even with French director Mathieu Kassovitz making his American debut as a director. Unfortunately, Kassovitz went a bit over the top taking advantage of his big budget to use way too many camera moves and editing effect making this film flavorless and giving some dizziness.

It tells the story of a psychiatrist who wakes up as a patient in the asylum where she used to work with no memory of what she did to end up there. Its just another ghost story that isnt very scary with a deceiving ending and a confusing non-sense plot. The only good thing about this film is the idea of bringing a character that we know is supposed to be sane but suddenly get us doubting her sanity.

As I said before Halle Berry got lucky with Monster's Ball - maybe it was Billy Bob - yes she did give a great performance cause she had a great role but here, like in most of her work, she is just kind of bad and very disappointing. Its pretty much the same with Penelope Cruz who never really gives a good performance in English. Even Robert Downey Jr. doesnt manage to be interesting. At least its not too laughable.

This movie was pretty good the acting was alright Robert Downey Jr i found was boring. Penelope Cruz plays a really good part and Halle Berry not bad.
The movie has some good twists put into it with a good ending and some really good effects it is worth a look at.

I admit, I actually got scared in this film. And that doesn't happen to me very often. Nonetheless I enjoyed it.

Firstly I was not interested to see it, but my Husband wanted to. So watched with him. Exactly what I expected. CRAP!! I m not sure what this Movie was all about. ehhh??
Okay I admit there were some "creepy" kindda of moments but it was still boring. It was like they stirred some other Horror Movies plot together and what came out was this.

This horror movie may not be brilliant but there is a plot in the story. It is not a long dragging tale of a bunch of deaths overfilled with long dramatic pauses that makes you want to leave the theatre instead of see what happens. Worth watching if you are bored.

Brilliant! This still remains one of my favourite films, I jsut love the way the frustration comes across of no-one believes you when you're crazy. A great part played by Halle Berry, to acompany a great story.

    VERDICT: Definitely recommend
