His actions are derided by his brother-in-law. In anger, the samurai casts his sister's husband out of the family. The outcast then joins a Shogunate to get his revenge. After observing the bad samurai as he moves beacon lights so he can deliberately wreck a ship, the two men engage in a deadly fight. one of the great samurai films of all time. it takes a small hit because of a very slow start, but once the film picks up steam it is marvelous. nakadai is brilliant as always, the cinematography is sensational, and the locations are beautiful providing the perfect mood of serenity… More
one of the great samurai films of all time. it takes a small hit because of a very slow start, but once the film picks up steam it is marvelous. nakadai is brilliant as always, the cinematography is sensational, and the locations are beautiful providing the perfect mood of serenity for the story. this film would not have worked as well were it not shot in deep winter, but once the mood is set it captures the soul. great film.

In order to cover their trail, they kill everybody in a nearby fishing village. Unbeknowst to them, there is an eyewitness(Ruriko Asaoka). Magobei Wakizaka(Tatsuya Nakadai), a high ranking samurai, is so disgusted at what he sees that he leaves his old life behind, including his wife Shino(Yoko Tsukasa) and her brother Rokugo Tatewaki(Tetsuro Tamba).
