Grace Is Gone is a movie that absolutely broke my heart.
This film was written and directed by James C. Strouse and is the story of loss. A dad finds out his wife has died serving our country and struggles with how he is going to tell his two daughters that their mother is gone....( read more) -

In James C. Strouse's directorial debut, he choses to examine the effects of war on a family. However, he never preaches about lost fathers and mothers, or fighting for the sake of fighting - the film's simple focus is about a man who loves his daughters. That's it. It's incredib...( read more)

Grace is Gone is graceful, for the lack of a better word. When Stan (Cusack) receives ill fated news of the death of his wife in Iraq, he decides to take his two daughters on a road trip to somehow at least temporarily forget his wife's death and to think of ways to tell the sad ...( read more)

Excellent drama even though a bit too much for my taste. if you are a John Cusack fan and you don't mind him in roles where he's not supposed to be comical, this is for you. best seen as tv material.

Oh, John Cusack. It's just like you to take a cross-country road trip to an amusement park instead of telling a child something more important, like, oh, say, HER MOM DIED. I heart you.

Grace is Gone is an intense movie, but it's definitely not great and probably doesn't deserve 4 stars. I'm giving is 4 stars anyway. John Cusack and the girls are very good. And the message of how one death, one sacrifice for our country, affects three people so deeply is poig...( read more)
Critic Reviews
Not a great movie, simply functional, but Cusack gives a great performance. full review
A barbell of a movie that carries some weight at either end. What's in between is purely utilitarian, though. full review
A syrupy-sweet, cloying score by Clint Eastwood overwhelms the otherwise elegant simplicity of Strouse's storytelling. full review
Incredibly John Cusack has never been nominated for an Academy Award but this movie may change that. He's simply terrific in a fine and moving film. full review
A moving and tender family drama, built on the foundation of a serious contemporary issue. full review
This is John Cusack. John is an Actor. Be catatonic, John. Good. Now be confused. Sad. Angry. Heartbroken. Fine. Now can we go home? full review
