Critic Reviews

  • Jeff Strickler, Minneapolis Star Tribune

This low-key family drama is so hokey that its title character is named Hokey.

  • Matt Weitz, Dallas Morning News

Doesn't leave you wishing you could get your money back.

  • Larry Ratliff, San Antonio Express-News

(Barry) Tubb fills the screen with wholesome, live-action family entertainment. That's a rarity these days.

  • Chris Hewitt (St. Paul), St. Paul Pioneer Press

The folks who made Grand Champion are best known for activities other than making movies. Grand Champion won't change that.

Cute for a G movie. A little cheesy, but that's to be expected. I enjoyed it aside from the part where the boys were "on the run" with the steer - that was a little boring and long, but otherwise it wasn't bad.
