When I was a kiddie this movie scared the hell outta me haha it tells you to check under your bed at night, and you do!! haha its magic, its very well made, the effects are truely gorgeous and still stand up well today. No cgi and all puppets, and the cast is a classic 80's line ...( read more)up. The film is actually still creepy, true, its sooo well done its actually still alittle unnerving, Gremlins in mircowaves and hacking at you with chainsaws, brutal stuff really, definatley not for kids. The flip side of course is its humour, very dark very wicked but bloody brilliant. For a very simple premise its extremely good.
awww who could forget lill Gizmo.

This was a good movie when I was a kid. It might be interesting to see an up-dated version of this, using today's technology.

Norman Rockwell always painted these quaint and picturesque visions of small town America at Christmastime. Gremlins takes one of those Rockwell paintings and sends it to hell for the holidays. When an inventor (Hoyt Axton) stumbles on a gift for his son in Chinatown he gets thre...( read more)e rules for the new pet. No bright lights, especially sunlight. Don't get them wet. Never feed them after midnight. Of course all three rules are broken in the course of the film and the cute little pet that he brings to his son Billy (Zach Galligan) turns into a slimy, ugly Gremlin whose soul purpose is to wreak havoc.

Gremlins is a really dark film when you get into the meat of the picture with some scenes being a little over the top for the PG crowd (this and Temple of Doom paved the way for the PG-13 rating). Gremlins is more of a dark comedy that gives its monsters something that other monster films tend to miss: Personality. True it's and over the top personality but each does seem to be its own Gremlin.

Gremlins is a good little romp, though I would keep anyone under the age of eight away from it. It starts out cute and cuddly, but ends up trying to scratch your eyes out.

Who can't enjoy the insanity that makes Gremlins what it is? The plot is simple, yet outrageous, showing you what happens when you break three simple rules. As far as kids movies, it's pretty mature. It has a really bizarre glossy look to it that sets it apart from anything like ...( read more)it. The best part is the twisted sense of humor and sarcastic nature of the movie. It's even more hilarious today due to the popularity of Furbys (and just how wrong that could go).
