Plot:
Two full length feature horror movies written by Quentin Tarantino & Robert Rodriguez put together as a two film release. Including fake movie trailers in between both movies. This is not a movie itse...( read more

Unique movie expierence. loved the fake trailers. I liked Planet Terror a little more than Death Proof. There is a great car chase with awesome stuntwork at the end of Death Proof.
Just an esoteric joke between two film school geeks. Neither Tarantino nor Rodriguez seem to grasp the fact that intentionally bad movies are appealing only to basement-dwelling nerds who spend all their time watching anime and attending sci-fi conventions. The rest of us want to see movies that actually had a bit of effort put into them.
Never had a chance to these two movies back to back, because it was such a box office flop in the US they decided to release them separately here in Europe (to cash in I guess). But I have seen both movies and was not very impressed with either of them. You can still read my separate reviews for them here on Flixster.
You have to see Planet Terror on the big screen (with the proper crowd) to appreciate it. Robert Rodriguez knew full-well what he was doing, diving head-first into a tarn of horror, comedy, and camp. Death Proof struggled with drawn out dialogue and trite references to other Tarantino films. I would have preferred a feature-length Werewolf Women of the SS... starring Nicholas Cage as Fu Manchu.
I had so much fun sitting in the theater watching this. I can not understand why it failed to make money. I saw it 3 times. If you didn't see on the big screen with the fake trailers, you missed out. I'm pissed off that the theatrical version isn't out on dvd yet!
A lot better than I thought it was going to be...still after almost a year, I can't get the sagging balls scene out of my head.
Much more enjoyable in a public viewing with people who equally share a love of film.
May go over the heads of those who aren't particularly dedicated or interested in film.
LOVED this movie.. I never stopped laughing.. or gasping. Everything about this movie was brilliant, it was a total movie experience. Not as good on my 36" TV... but still good.
This Tarintino movie which is actually called Death Proof originaly a double feature with Planet Terror but released seperately with fake trailers attached to it was a lot of fun but do watch out for those who dont know Tarintino the language is pretty fowl..while the action is usual comic book style starring Rosario Dawson, Rose Mc Gowan and Kurt Russel
Too many people missed it in the theaters and what a shame it is but I guess watching it on dvd makes up for it but still doesn't match seeing it on the big screen.
Loved "Death Proof". Liked "Planet Terror". The intermission previews. Outta site!!! Especially the Thanksgiving one. Poor poor grannie.
An extraordinary experience, beyond anything you've ever seen on film.
See only "Planet Terror" and you will get an exciting zombie homage to 70's exploitation films with great performances and visually stunning action sequences.
See only "Death Proof" and you'll receive the most brilliant dialogues of the new century.
See them both in the whole Grindhouse experience and they'll get you out of your mind with excitement and hilarity.
A truly entertaining experience.
Awesome.
death proof was pretty dumb, if the whole movie was like the car scenes it would have been pretty good
as for planet terror, its a lame zombie movie, who cant love it =p
Overall this experience as a whole was amazing and I can't wait for another "Double Feature (With Fake Trailers) Gore Festival Of Delight" as I like to refer to it as.
I have seen both "Death proof" and "Planet terror" on their own, but I haven't seen the actual full "Grindhouse" (both of them together with the trailers, and so on), that's why this one is still on my "want to see" list
Watches even though i wasn't interested ... it wasn't that bad i found it kinda funny tons of action and killing.
Four stars for Planet Terror - A wonderful love letter to cheesy B-movies. Rodriguez is just so dialed-in to his medium. But I haven't seen Death Proof yet.
Death Proof is not as good as Planet Terror. The dialogues aren't brilliant as in the other Tarantino movies.
If any Brits read this then feel honored. You got the whole package. The damn industry ripped in half for us Yanks. That's like taking a delicious, greasy slice of New York pizza, tearing it in half, soaking all the grease off and then handing it to me and saying "Well you'll get the second half in a month."
Tarantino's segment screws with your emotions and repays the closest attention; Rodriguez's segment is OK but it evaporates instantly.
Fantastic example of exploitation films. If you didn't see it in theaters (or don't live in America) you simply missed out on the greatest modern day film going experience. How movies should be made!
In all honesty, I suppose "Grindhouse" means the two movies put together with the mock trailers in between. With that being the case, I should really knock this down to 4 stars, because they should've reversed the movies. But taking all of those things seperately, it's 5 stars, hands down.

I like Death proof the best there was a good ending and lots of action in the car chase.
the only thing that made this film worth watching was the hotties in it and the car crash scene, apart from that.....YAWWWWNNNNNN!!!!, but planet terror on the other hand, that was the dogs nutz, lots of action, lots of gore, a cool old skool storyline that reminded me of b-flicks of that era and it was pretty humourous in places. A big thumbs up.
I wish they werent spliting Grindhouse for the Australia release. I want to see grindhouse the way it was intended. Screw the reviews and box office opening statistics. Why should we not get to see Grindhouse in all its Glory just because it didnt do as well as expected. First they push back the release date, and now they are spliting them up! I only hope that when the DVD comes we will have the option then to see "Grindhouse"! not "Planet Terror" and "Death Proof".
Just one question: if they're splitting this in two for DVD release (which I hope they don't) then what happens to those priceless fake trailers? They were one of the best things about seeing the film(s), and I'm going to be mad if I don't get those. >:(
I LOVE THIS MOVIE...AT FRIST I WAS LIKE F*** THIS SHIT'S FAKE...DUH! IT'S WAS MADE FOR THAT JUST REASON...IT WON'T WIN AN OSCAR. BUT, IT SHOULD THE GENIOUS THAT IS PREVELENT COMES SHINNING THROUGH; ONCE YOU UNDERSTAND YOUR ROLE IN MAKING THIS MOVIE COME TO LIFE...EVERYTHING CAN BE DEEMED BAD...BUT THAT'S THE PICASO...ASPECT...IT'S UP TO YOU! HMMM...THE GROSSNESS IS SO GROSS IT'S AWSOME...EVEN A CHILD CAN WATCH IT AND UNDERSTAND IT'S REAL MEANNING AND NOT BE SCARED... I KNOW I LET MY NEPHEWS WATCH IT....PEOPLE SPREAD THE WORD THIS MOVIE SHOULD GO DOWN AS ONE OF THE BEST MOVIES EVER...IF YOU DON'T LIKE THIS MOVIE YOU SHOULDN'T BE WATCHING MOVIES...WOOHOO, GO GRINDHOUSE! KEEP THE HISTORY ALIVE!
Yeah, they're splitting them up to try to get a larger profit.
In North America, the film didn't do very well as a whole. In its opening weekend, it ended up being third or fourth at the Box Office, which was pretty surprising. So, they're splitting them up overseas to see if people were turned off of going to see it because of how long it was as a double-feature. In general, they're just hoping to make more money, as I mentioned above.
I'd be pissed if I was you, though. Splitting them up ruins the experience. It's bullshit.
Why the fuck is this not in Ireland yet and why are they splitting the films. Is it to make more money? The films will do alot better in Europe than in the states...
When it comes to "Grindhouse", a lot of people claim a favoritism towards one or the other "feature" in the film. In my honest opinion, I feel that Rodriguez and Tarantino both made movies the way they wanted to. They were trying to recreate the cinema they grew up with, a cinema that has long since become extinct in our post-modern society. There are no grindhouses left in society and there are are barely any functional drive-ins left. This experiment in retro film is both Rodriguez and Taratino's way of preserving the tradition of hardcore, no holds bar grittiness that lacks in most films now. And in my opinion, they succeeded. It doesn't matter if "Death Proof" or "Planet Terror" sucked. It doesn't matter that this film failed at the box office. They succeeded in their goal. And I am damn proud to have been able to see this film in the theaters. And the film kept it's promise from the trailer, "Two adrenaline fueled rollercoasters, one ticket to ride." And it was.
