G...( read more  read more... )umby and the Clayboys decide to hold a benefit concert to raise money to buy back the lost farms. Gumby puts on a spectacular performance which has a strange, yet amazing, effect on his dog, Lowbelly--he starts to cry... pearls! These pearl tears do not go unnoticed by the unscrupulous Blockheads. Thinking it is the Clayboys' music which triggers Lowbelly's tears, the greedy Blockheads devise a selfish scam to record the music, dognap Lowbelly and harvest the free-flowing pearls. Upon returning to their lab, the Blockheads try in vain to induce Gumby's loyal friend to shed pearl tears by playing tapes of the Clayboys' music. The plot thickens when a computer instructs the bumbling blockheads that only LIVE music will work: Undaunted, they scheme to kidnap the whole band!

This feature film retains the look and feel of the kids' claymated television show. It's delightful the games that can be played when animation need not be shackled by the constraints of reality. In an amusing early scene, Pokey gets hit by two other clay characters a little too ...( read more)hard, and the three turn into a big mixed up multicolored ball of clay. It takes special surgery to separate them apart. And that's the endearing quality of Gumby; he and his world isn't an animated representation of something in real life they are the animation. They really are made out of clay. This charmingly awkward antidote to today's super-slick computer animation may test your cuteness tolerance. Although the action is slow by contemporary wham-bam standards, the drama eventually picks up as the kooky plot complications pile up.

Ew. This film is bad. It has a poxy storyline surrounding a dog that cries pearls. What a shambles.

Gumby is The Best Good Guy!
Please Dont Make a Live Action Version.... Ever!
An Oldstyle Claymation Update would be good though.
How about a Medevil Theme? The Green Knight and Pokey his trusty Steed? I dont know something where they are travelling through time would be good. An Elaborate Tale touching on todays and Yesterdays Morals would be Keen!
    Thanks
